I know that many of you are working on your Thanksgiving menus. The CDC has just come out with a new warning not to eat any kind or brand of Romaine Lettuce. This is a new warning today. It is loaded with eColi which makes people quite ill and sometimes kills.

What if you really wash it?? I'm in Canada but we've had outbreaks from different lettuces as well.

@Marty1 That's bad news. I thought rinsing might help but I guess not.

@Marty1 If you can avoid getting sick, that is the best thing.

@Marty1 Oh yes I bet--food poisoning is very brutal on the body. You often need antibiotics!

I just ate some romaine lettuce tonight but hopefully it was not contaminated as I don't know the origin of the lettuce.

@akalinus I did have a bit of a sore stomach and the problem is also in Canada. I will not be eating anymore till we are told that we can again. Most of our romaine comes from the US.

Oh my I wonder why they got this bacteria in them. It must be the water they use or the soil they are planted where they got this with them. Too bad since this veggies are really good to eat if only they do not have the bacteria in them.

@akalinus oh why would people do that to deliberately pit this on the plants.

That is true. I think some of it is done deliberately because there are a lot of disturbed people out there.

@rsa101 Why do they do any of the awful stuff that they do? A lot of people are mental, or the voices tell them to, or they think other people are responsible for their problems.

@akalinus I know and I see that most cases come from California, surely a problem of the water used.

@LadyDuck They said it was from water but it is a problem in many states. People are getting sick from it in Florida too.

That is the ideal way but many people have to buy it from the store.

I wanted to add this because there was a warning a while back and people might think it is about that. This is a brand new warning from yesterday.

It is kind of sad that we are supposed to eat veggies and salad but have to worry about it all the time.

@leny34 eColi is a very nasty cause of food poisoning. Often, you buy something contaminated by it and you hear about it on the news. This latest outbreak has killed someone and sent others to the hospital.

Doctors tell us to eat lots of salad. But you never know what is contaminated anymore. I might get sick from something I eat today and hear tomorrow that I should have thrown it away.

It is only for Romaine lettuce though. They did not say anything about other types. I have iceberg salad mix in my fridge that I have been eating all week and no problems yet.

You don't want your tortoise to get sick either. There are big empty spaces in our stores where they took away the romaine. I guess it is iceberg until they get it all sorted out.

@Nevena83 It is actually the bacteria that contaminates the food which is to blame.

@akalinus You're right. The food we eat in time causes a disease, which is not good at all.
