The Mass Shooting You Won't Hear About

Unless you live in or around the town, you've probably never heard of Springfield, Kentucky. Oh, you might have heard about it when they were having that contest on The Simpsons about "the best Springfield in America," but other than that, it's just one of countless small towns in America that shows up in a person's conscience for the amount of time it takes to read the town's name on a highway exit sign. Well, thank God, that's the way Springfield is going to remain. Yesterday (11/19) an alert, quick-reflexed, and brave local policeman stopped what may have been the next mass shooting. That happened in Springfield, Kentucky, which is about 60 miles from Louisville. The Springfield police (remember, this is a sleepy little podunk town of about 3,100 people) received a complaint of a "suspicious vehicle" near the L&B Manufacturing (an auto parts manufacturing company). When assistant police chief Joe Templeman and Captain Tony Golden responded they found a man in a pick-up truck. He refused to comply with the officers' orders, then Templeman saw the man raise a gun toward the policemen. He quickly grabbed the man's hand and disarmed him, then got him out of the truck and to the ground as he was reaching for a second gun hiding in the waistband of his pants. After subduing the subject, the policemen found a third gun in an ankle holster strapped to his leg. Then, inside the vehicle, there was an assault rifle (an AR-15) and a .380 assault rifle. According to the news stories, all five weapons were fully loaded, and one had been illegally modified to be "fully automatic." The federal ATF is joining the investigation. Current charges include attempted murder (as he pointed a loaded gun at the policeman). From all appearances, according to the hero policeman, the suspect was planning a mass shooting attack on the business. He claimed he believed a female acquaintance was being "trafficked" at the place, and the suspect told police he'd "brought what he needed to get the job done." Thank God for our brave policemen and women! This is one mass shooting you won't hear about, because it was prevented!!! Here's the story from a local TV station:
He faces several charges including attempted murder, wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.

Goodness, it sounds like he was a man on a mission. That's so good that he was apprehended.

Thank heavens the man was stopped before anyone got hurt. The police were in the right place at the right time. Of course, we have all heard of Springfield if we live anywhere the cartoon is shown. It put the place on the map.

in my opinion it is a very good thing to commemorate someone who is considered suspicious to the authorities, because in my opinion he has saved someone

I hate that most news outlets will only announce the bad that happens in this world. A lot of hero's go unnoticed because people would rather hear tragic news. I'm glad they were able to stop them though and very thankful for unknown hero's.

It was good taht somebody noticed something suspicious and alerts the authorities. He, along with the police, may have saved many lives.
