One would wish the friendship had started when we were kids but her province was in the Central Plain and mine was where the GI Joes had their Rest and Recreation. Our ages are not far apart but her recollection of the 70's was more vivid than mine. We met at a pergola in Pisay, parents waiting for dismissal time. Four years and we shared a million and one stories. We were simply comfortable telling each other about our own selves. Then to UP. The campus was huge, the colleges where our children were enrolled were far for us to meet, the schedules different.. She was a walker though, but I was a slowpoke because of my neuropathy. Sigh. We did plan to watch the Lantern Parade but we never saw each other through the crowd. It was another matter for the Oblation Run. That we planned well. Ha ha. Of course. Our children are young pros now, soaring high for their respective corners of the sky. Once in a blue moon we communicate through landline, as I never quite established a genuine relationship with the mobile phone. The calls last till one needs to eat or go to the bathroom. Ooops, both reasons are mine. Few times we made it to the movies and truly lovely lunches. One whimsical time I got lured to the mall and she asked me to try a blouse on. Next thing I knew, the blue blouse was paid for and she handed me the shopping bag. Wow. What else can I say? Yesterday, we did set a date - breakfast at Bee. She has something to give me. I was thinking she' would bring some milkfish, as she did one harvest time. She has a couple of ponds in the province and taking good care of her heritage has been her passion. Oh true enough I got succulent milkfish which I plan to grill this weekend. I did not expect a piling of lakatan, and these blouses and scarf. WOW, Perly, I did struggle to control the tears, for in my life, friendship was a passing thing, but homeward bound, I got lost again for the tears welled up. I know you have many friends because you are such an amiable and selfless person, but in mine, you demonstrated thoughtfulness and sincerity and kindness - just about the loving I'd wish in a friend. Thank you, Perly, you affirmed that friendship can be true. Thank you, too, Rani, I believe that a being is enhanced by the better half. Am blessed to have known you and have you for friends.

Friendship, if genuine, is true from the beginning. This one is. I am grateful. I do hope you have one, too.
