Another Mystery Plant

I think I'm getting close to the answer, but I can't decide for sure if this is a penstemon variety or Epilobium Cana ssp. angustifolium (Hummingbird Trumpet) or another Epilobium like California Fuschia. What do you say @LadyDuck ? Who knows, it may be something entirely different. Here's a photo. The plant comes at least to my knees. It's beginning to die back now, but these few flowers are left. It grows in clumps and blooms in summer and fall. It's a fiery orange/red color, as you can see. It grows in our local park and is very drought resistant.

Judging by the small leaves I would say that this plant is a Zauschneria cana (California Fucsia).

I think it's definitely in the same family -- maybe a hybrid.

This is a different type of fushia. The one you're talking about is more a cultivated ornamental plant people keep in their gardens, I think. This one is a native plant that you will find growing in parks, etc.

It's much prettier in the mid summer when it is full of flowers and the stems and leaves are all green -- not so brown.

I think I have it pretty close to identified now, but wanted to double check with the others who are knowledgeable about plants here. I'd like to grow some.

The flowers add color to the landscape, and I'd like to get this one for my garden. It does look woody at this time of year, though.
