Am I being scammed?

I've been searching everywhere for a particular lipstick that's been discontinued. I know, this is basically a chick post. I've looked at every store I go in that has cosmetics. I've searched a gazillion sites on line. I actually have found it on ebay, but there's no way I'm going to pay $40 for a lipstick that was about five bucks at Walmart not long ago. So, you ladies can imagine my excitement when I got a reply from a woman on Face Book Marketplace asking how many I wanted. How many? How did YOU happen to come up with so many of them? And they're only $5 each! I said, cautiously, I'd buy four of them at that price and $5 shipping for all. In every message, I asked if she had the exact one I wanted. Looking back, she never did commit to having it. When I asked for her address to mail her a check for $25, the last name she gave was different than her FB account. (I always check that out first.) I questioned her about that and she said it was because she had never gotten her last name changed on her driver's license. Things were starting to really get a little fishy. She said to just wait on mailing the check until she got the items on Monday. I sent one final message to her yesterday. Still waiting to hear from her. And somehow I don't think that's gonna happen. I think she knew I was on to her and what was going on. But why would she risk getting in trouble for only $25? Oh well. The worst part is I still don't have that lipstick.

Yeah, I think you caught on to the scam. Plus, what if she gave you used lipstick passed off as new.

She said everything was new, but it amazed me first of all that she managed to find that particular one and why she was selling it so cheap, especially when others are hiking the price so high.

Is there any way you can contact the company that makes it and ask where you could buy that lipstick in your area?

@1creekgirl Maybe you can send an email to the company letting them know of your situation and maybe the can be more helpful?

I found the company website, but all they do is suggest stores that carry their brand. But none of those stores have it.

I do not trust people who propose things on Facebook, there are too many scammers. I am glad you did not send the money.

@1creekgirl I only trust people who live in my area, they would not dare to cheat.

I've bought and sold on our local FB market with local people, but this woman was in another state.

That's what I think too. She could have said, "Oh, I'm so sorry, but I don"t have that exact one after all" and I would have been okay.

@hillhjill Apparently, she sells makeup on FB, so why would she risk trouble for no more than that? And she could easily have just said she didn't have it after all instead of looking so guilty.

@1creekgirl some people out there just want to see how far they can take it and go around the simple question that you asked.

It is rather a curious case isn't. I would be suspicious and I certainly would like to have a picture of the tubes of lipstick.

She shows a photo of lots of makeup, so I understand needing to look for it. But she never even tried to make an excuse.

Even if she responds maybe you'd better clarify is it what you want and get her to upload a picture!! But then again better luck next time!!!
