How do you like my Parol?

A Parol is a Filipino lantern made of bamboo sticks and is formed into a star, covered with different color papers and in different sizes. It is one of the Filipino traditions during Christmas. It is hang inside or outside the house. It gives us Filipinos a nostalgic feelings of Christmas. I bought the Parol in the photo from a passers by. The creator of the Parol brought this to the one who ordered when she passed by our house. My nieces called me because I told them once that I need a photo of a Christmas lantern for my Christmas article. I photographed the lantern before the seller went to the one who ordered it. It was a homemade lantern and I ordered 1 for me for next week. Half an hour later, the woman returned and sold me the same lantern. I supposed it was expensive for the buyer that I was the one who bought it. Do you have a Parol hanging in your ceiling or outside your house?

This is nice, but it's not the kind of decorations we hang inside (or outside) the house.

I don't, but that is a great idea. Many cultures use some sort of star for Christmas. My traditions are the Advent wreath and a manger scene.

It is really beautiful. In my childhood, my elder brother used to make starts by his own with sticks and glazing papers. It is just for hanging even though we do not celebrate Christmas.

Your parol looks good, Ms. Thelma. Here and in other jails/rehabilitation centers, usually prisoners look forward to Christmas because it's the time they can make some money for their families by making parols which they start making as early as September. Many prisoners have special talents that parols made by them are beautiful and even intricate.

@thelme55 Yes, I think many of the prison/rehabilitation centers allow their inmates to make Christmas parols for them to have some income to send to their families for Christmas. I'm just wondering how they manage to account for the knives. scissors and other tools. Or probably, those maing parols are placed in one area and every is frisked as they enter or leave that area.

We don't have a parol. We onlh have the usual big gold triangle with Christmas lights as Christmas tree. We also have Santa Claus in arious places of the house and Christmas lights on the trees outside.

I spotted a display in one of the streets here along with other Christmas decors. There are various and mixed colors but I think the green one stood out from the rest.
