From a railway carriage

"Faster than fairies, faster than witches...".. Those are lines from a poem by the title name by RL Stevenson in his , Child's Garden of Verses. A much loved book which I still peep in and enjoy when I go to my parents place. The slightly tattered blue hardbound book takes me back years... But to get back to my discussion. Trains have become a big part of my life since the last 4 years. The good part is that I get to see a lot of the rural countryside. Changing seasons are reflected in the nature outside. Some places that I see make me want to get off and spend a lazy day there armed with oranges, chocolates and a good book. But the train doesn't listen and carries me onwards to my destination and work. PS...View from my train window

Ihave travelled several times long distance and short distance too by train. The one I remember the most is my experience by Amtrak in California. It was a travel along the sea coast lasting miles.

I used to love trains.. I still do.. but we have tracks running behind our house and god the noise they make in the middle of the night sometimes make me want to scream.. I am a light sleeper and each time a train passes by i am awake and sometimes like awake for an hour or so.. I love road trips so we can decide the routes and stop where we want..

@responsiveme sometimes i wonder if the drivers are just jealous of people sleeping peacefully.. they honk like they are losing their minds.. lol I know what you mean .. I love to just spread a nice sheet and have a picnic and a book to read.. a dream come true..

I wouldn't like tracks being my house too. From where I stay I hear the trains going by but in the distance. I like road trips too. These journeys are not holiday trips just going and coming to be with hubby

@sofssu yup the drivers could keep their honking till they crossed the city....But then they wouldn't need to honk....I think all those people who cross the rail lines so carelessly are to blame. Great picnic scenerio eh

It is a pretty long time that I do not use a train. I did when I was younger, but now it's all the time the car.

Train is easier for me , I find it less exhausting. Especially if there are a good number trains between my destination. How far do you have to travel to get to Italy?

@responsiveme A superior way to travel. I have travelled by train in India and Europe a lot. I love the rhythm and just sitting there looking at the changing scene.

@responsiveme Yes in the day the other noises can drown them out I know what you mean. I love the quiet of the night and just before dawn.
