A Rare Late Day

It is seldom I wake an hour late for anything. This morning I did. I opened my eyes at 4:05. I was tempted not to go to the pool but decided to anyway, especially since I had grocery shopping to do. The car was frosted over, so used the ice scraper instead of just letting the car thaw out. I didn't get an opportunity to check the weather this morning, so was happy it was nice out, chilly, but it is almost winter. Unofficially, it is. The water felt good this morning and I got a nice workout in the pool. Then it was time to get groceries. My fridge and freezer were almost bare and by the look of the shopping cart and the total for groceries, I can attest to that. I always worry that I got too much for the freezer, but it all fit. I got an e-mail from Social Services. It's nice to know they are on top of keeping me poor. Social Security is giving a 2.8% Cost of Living Raise next month. My food share went down because my income is going up. Pretty soon I won't need Social Services. I'll be making too much for them to give me anything for food. It would be nice if I could live on $19 a month for food. If you can do it, tell me how you manage it. I hope they won't stop the housing benefit. So far, that one is the best thing I have going. So, anyway, I thought I would let you know why I was so late getting here today. I woke late. I did get 8 hours of sleep, also rare. I'll be getting to work on my book soon. I'm hoping to do two chapters today. We'll see how that goes. How is your day going? Thanks for reading. This is my goal board. I'll be erasing it and posting the 2019 goals soon.

@just4him I don't know how the heck you can get up so early in the morning. I wish I could. As for social security I am thinking that they get some kind of devious pleasure out of keeping up so poor. I love your goal board, they are so important for a creative person to use to help keep them on track.

Social Services takes devious pleasure in keeping us poor, not Social Security. Though it would be nice to make a little more than I am. I barely make it to the end of the month.

@HazySue I'm glad you've never had to deal with Social Services. My Social Security is just enough to live on, and not much more.

@just4him My social security is little of nothing. I haven't been involved with social services.

So, the saying goes. It was worth it to get to the pool.

They really do not know how much food cost, I think that nobody can live on $19 a month for food.

@just4him I know, you have to declare everything and any cent you make, they lower what they give. It's not a nice system.

@LadyDuck No, it's not. But it is what it is.

I think they're unrealistic. They figure everything you make and determine how much a single person household would be comfortable with. I need to include my earnings from myLot and Swagbucks as it's income. Not much, but they count everything. If you make a lot less than the determined amount for your household, then the amount you get is higher. If not, it's lower. With Social Security giving a 2.8% raise next year, my allotted amount for food has gone down. I was on Welfare many years ago and hated it then and did everything I could to get off it and vowed never to be part of the system again. I've done well since getting off it but losing my job, my income, and my home put me right back in the system. It's a lose/lose situation.

When I got a job that paid minimum wage, the first thing Social Services did, they took away my food stamps and health insurance coverage. What a slap across the face! I was getting $12 a month for food stamps, I told them to keep it. I suffered financially because I wasn't lazy, like some of their other clients.

I don't like dealing with Social Services, but I have no choice. I would be living under a bridge if I had to live on what I get from Social Security alone. And I'm at an age when working is not an option. I have too many physical limitations to work, even if I do think of myself as healthy. I have a lifting limitation due to a crushed vertebra and I can't stand for too long or do a lot of walking. I wish I could. So, I sit here writing books and hope to start earning money as an author to get out of the system.

@kobesbuddy That's terrible. Didn't you need to show your bank statement so they would know what you were making?

@just4him I got cheated different times, through SS. Bruce was paying child support sporadicly. If he felt like it, he paid. If he didn't feel like it, he didn't pay. So every two weeks I prayed in the bill money. Bruce drank up every dime he earned. SS had on record, that I was receiving that money every week. We lived on next to nothing, at times.

That's everything I worked on this year. I will erase the board soon and put up my 2019 goals. Thread of Evidence will still be on it until it's published. I don't know what other projects from this year will be on the board.

@Hannihar I have the top two. If I get time, I will work on the rest, which I have at different times throughout the year. The green stars are unfinished novels.

A funny thing about that raise: Why wouldn't those getting SS get the raise on the previous year's earnings, b/c they do base that percentage on the cost of living for 2018, don't they? Shouldn't they owe you money?

I know the hassle of trying to live on a fixed income. Not fun. I give you a lot of credit for getting up so early to go to the pool. At 4am I'm snuggled in bed

This morning, I wish I were snuggled in bed as I can't go to the pool. I went and bruised a rib yesterday and even sitting here is a struggle breathing through the pain. I was up at my usual time, unable to sleep.

I wish I could sleep late. But Lily is always getting me up, or I have to pee. Today I got up my usual time and went to sleep in the recliner with Lily.

I don't usually sleep more than 5 hours so it was rare when I woke late. You must have a comfortable recliner to sleep in it.
