Surgery and snakes

The good news is that even though my husband almost stepped on a huge cottonmouth moccasin, he saw it before the snake "saw" him.
This time of year, snakes are pretty much blind, but can sense if someone or something is heading towards it. My husband was in the woods and he said something told him, "Look down."
Praise God he did look down and saw that huge cottonmouth. It wasn't coiled so my husband took a picture of it! I said, "Are you crazy???"
He said since it wasn't coiled, it wouldn't have the distance to spring at him, but certainly was prepared to bite him as soon as he got closer.
I've been thanking God for two days that my husband didn't get bitten.
The other good news is that our daughter had her hip surgery this morning and all went well. She's already home (major surgery on out-patient basis!), but now the physical therapy and pain will begin. They did have to repair a tear, not just clean out inflammation like we had hoped.
So, neither surgery nor snakes are pleasant situations, but we're praising God for His mercy!

I'm glad that both situations have worked out well and may they continue to do so.
Why are snakes blind at this time of the year?

@1creekgirl Thanks for the explanation! I'm looking forward to when Isaiah 65:25 becomes a reality and I'll be brave enough to actually touch snakes.

They've been in hibernation for the winter, then if it warms up a little, they come out, but still don't see too well.

You can see in the photo how it looks like it has cotton in its mouth, ready to bite. I'm like you, I'd have gotten as far away, as quickly as possible!

I'm so glad to hear your husband did not get bit! God is such a good Father! Glad the Holy Spirit told him to look down.
Sorry your daughter is going to be in pain and have to go through physical therapy, that's never easy. :( Glad surgery went well though.

No, unless they bite you close to your heart. If you don't get to a hospital pretty quick, you could die.

@1creekgirl Does this happen often? I mean: do many people die of snake bites in the USA?

@1creekgirl These are good numbers. So the chance of dying in a car accident or being shot is much greater.

@1creekgirl My stepfather used to give me snakes in socks. But I couldn't keep them.

He showed me another picture of another cottonmouth he saw today. Makes me nervous even walking in the back yard.

@1creekgirl I cannot stand even the small black snakes that are not dangerous.

@1creekgirl oh gosh, even when blind their senses will be more sharp. I am glad your hubby was not bitten and he was still able to take a photo of it.

They tend to be semi-blind, but they can sense what's heading toward them.

@1creekgirl Beats me why you continue to live there!! The very thought of a serpent gives me nightmares. I do hope things progress well for your daughter.

I am terrified of snakes. My daughter will start physical therapy in a day or two, I guess.

I am glad about both. Your husband took a big risk taking a picture though.

I thought so too. But he said since it wasn't coiled (and could reach him), he decided to take a photo.
