Interacting with scam telephone calls

I tend to delete scam emails right away. But the phone calls are different. There was a time when the Windows Support Group was calling me all the time. I used to try to keep them on the line as long as I could. My personal record was 45 minutes (now what button do I push?). The person was so angry at the end they actually hung up on me.
A few times I would just say (right after their speel) this is a scam, please hang up now.
There are 1 billion plus windows computers in the world.
They on average throw 25 to 40 event messages a day. A central windows computer, if it existed would be massive (it doesn't)
But sorting through 24 billion messages in less than 2-3 months and then identifying your specific computer, is next level compute. They would need a lot of processing power to do that.
What do you do when the scammers call?

@DocAndersen If you even answer them, they put your name on a list of a million more scammers to call you. I never give them the time of day or anything else.

We started doing that more and more. But sometimes I like to see how much I can annoy them. I figure if they are trying to scam me, and I force them to hang up first, i win!

@DocAndersen I know they try a series of numbers in a row, but our is not listed, so it can only be a scam.

@LadyDuck yes in fact they do. The software is called a demon dialer. It was actually invented many years ago with a noble intent (creating an early warning system for people. There is a hurricane coming something like that.) sadly it has become the tool that scammers use.

@DocAndersen I also like telling them that I need to see photographic ID before I tell them anything more.

That is awesome - they deserve whatever comes once the call connects.

I put them on blacklist. We received scam calls and frank calls all the time especially in our shop. I'm putting them on Blacklist right away.

I actually participated in a software beta for Malwarebytes. It removes junk calls from your cell and your home phone!

I usually hang up, or I used to let them talk to an audiobook.
