It's Girlfinder time again here in Denver, and tonight, it's found one near and dear to my heart. We are at #7: "Phased" by All About Eve. With ties to Gene Loves Jezebel, The Mission, The Sisters of Mercy, and The Church, All About Eve were a British band formed in 1984. Vocalist Julianne Regan had played bass early on for Gene Loves Jezebel, and performed backup vocals on The Mission's debut album, guitarist Tim Bricheno went on to play with both The Mission and The Sisters of Mercy, was replaced by Church guitarist Marty Wilsson-Piper, and bassist Andy Cousin also spent a bit of time in The Mission. With a folk-goth sound, All About Eve were fairly successful (their first two albums reached the Top 10 in the UK,) but the group eventually morphed into a shoegazer style, with less success. That direction was most evident on their final studio album, 1992's Ultraviolet (#46 in the UK.) That album's opener, "Phased," did ok, reaching #38 in their native country (par for the course, really, as most of the band's singles stalled in the 30's on the UK charts.) But damn, is this one dreamy tune! Julianne's gorgeous vocals are as lovely as ever, and as is the case with many shoegazer songs, take on a near hypnotic quality. Although All About Eve reunited in 1999 in order to tour with The Mission, they have been dormant since 2004, with Regan stating that while working together again is not out of the realm of possibility, "it seems we've all moved on and are exploring other avenues." But still, such a great band! They've been a big part of my music life for a long time, and I miss them. A lot. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Doesn't it suck when they go dormant. I mean will always have the old songs, but its neat seeing your favorite old bands put out new stuff. This is really good buddy, I never heard of them.

They do seem to have gone their separate ways. Hell, Marty isn't even in The Church anymore. He's living in Iceland, doing his own thing.

These guys definitely made it work. I know that "Martha's Harbour" was a big hit over there.
