When you use a shopping cart or basket

I am posting this because I seem to not be well. All I can figure is that I picked up a "bug" someplace hubby did not. So, the other day when we were in McPherson, I shopped at Wal Mart, and Dillons. We all know that people often shop, even when they are too sick to even be out of their house. The stores all seem to offer sanitizing wipes for the carts. I usually do not use them. I was wondering if you use them when you get a basket or cart? I am suspecting that would be where I picked up a bug, as I did the shopping, pushed the cart, hubby did not. He is fine. I was miserable last night, miserable again this morning. So glad to have ginger ale, ginger tea, powdered ginger, candied ginger and fresh ginger root on hand. It all helps. So, do you wipe down the shopping cart handles, etc?

Yes I have used those wipes on the shopping cart. This time of year I do everything I can to prevent getting sick.

I am not having colds and such. I am just having a hard time with my stomach. Figured maybe that is where I got a bug.

Here in the US everyone is petrified of germs, it seems. Wal Mart was one of the last stores to provide this. Do you see moms putting seat covers in the basket before putting their child in the seat?

@GardenGerty No, I don't. Children who are raised in a germ free surroundings can become sick more easily than children who come into contact with germs.

@MALUSE My kids were exposed to lots of germs, and seldom went to the doctors.I usually am pretty healthy myself.

No, I don't. But I always make sure to wash my hands or use anti-bacterial sanitizer afterward

I wash my hands a lot. Hubby and I think stress may be making me feel unwell. We are trying more activities.

I do not wipe down the cart handle. But I go to the restroom to wash my hands as soon as I put it back.

I used to not worry about it much. I think I am stressing a lot about health while Bob has been sick. Stress can make a person really sick.

@GardenGerty I have heard of a store offering sanitizing wipes. I have my own shopping cart I bring with me and then use the one at the store. No, I do not wipe down my shopping cart at the store.

I wish I lived close enough to just bring my own cart. Of course if we think about it, people do not just touch the cart, but all kinds of things in the store. I think washing afterwards is a good idea, maybe, instead.

I have not been. Most people who responded here say that they just wash their hands, do not touch their face, etc.

I do not wipe off the cart handles, but I never, ever touch my face with my hands. I also take a shower after I return from being out in public during the cold and flu season.

Usually I am gone all day if I am gone shopping. Shower before bed. I always figured my immunity needs a little kick now and then by exposure to real world germs.

I dont, but keep in mind that most people touch the whole cart too.Not just the handle. I dont worry about it as they also possibly touched something that I will later pick up. Washing your hands after is a lot easier

I do not know if it is or isn't. I have read horror stories, of course. On the other hand, my kids grew up healthy as can be.

No but I will start because Tony is already sick enough, he waits in the car for me as it is, then washes my hands in sanitizer.

It might be wise to keep him safe. With the cancer treatment his immune system is worn out, I am sure.

I do wipe them down since I hate being sick and we have so many in our family to spread illness to. I'm sorry you're sick and I will be praying for healing!

I do not, or have not in the past. Just wanting to find out what others do.
