Bread and Milk! Bread and Milk!

United States
December 6, 2018 12:37pm CST
Last night it was decided that we would make a trip to the store today. I made up a list based on quick and easy foods that could be made during the snow storm. A local weather station says we could get up to 14 inches of accumulation in my direct area. I will just say it will probably end up being 6-8 inches but I wouldn't mind 14 inches of snow. I didn't buy bread because we don't really consume that much bread. I did buy canned biscuits and I can make up more biscuits if necessary. Oh, and the snow isn't expected until Sunday and Monday, so we are prepared in advance with the chance to get out and get more before the weather moves in. What's it like where you are?

now that hurricane season is over we may not have to stock extras for a couple months yet. i do hope your power doesn't go in those snow storms. if it does perhaps you have a fire place or wood stove or pit some where to cook on?

@bunnybon7 We don't get that much snow in NC. I've been happy that the last couple of years we've seen some good snow days.

We have a fireplace but it needs to be maintained before we even try that. No, if we lose power then we go to eating snacks. I bought a couple of cans of biscuits and I can make biscuits up. I was thinking of cooking up a few things that will keep well if left out on the stove. If the power goes out, atleast it should be cold enough to put things outside to keep cold.

I found this just now and though that I'd comment just in case you're feeling really hot and need a reminder that it will get cold before too long

@rebelann It isn't. I'm hoping it gets better on it's own and we don't have to call the repair people.

I am feeling really hot! It's hot outside but there's something going on with our AC I think. It's chugging, but it doesn't seem to be keeping things as cool as they were before.

I just heard we are supposed to get a Nor’easter next week I dread that! Last time that happened we got a few feet of snow and roads and places were closed for days.

It's good to be prepared. I think we will get a bit of snow, maybe about two to three inches. Have a good weekend!

We don't always get a lot of snow here. The past few winter seasons have been good for us snow wise. We typically only get up to 5 inches, so I love seeing much more snow that lasts longer. Just not enough to migrate to Canada where snow is a bigger problem.

That's a good move! It's better to be prepared than to say sorry! I wish I can experience snow too in my country.

I live in the southern part of the US and so we don't really know what to do / how to handle snow. Atleast not in comparison to the North. Maybe one day you can visit a country that experiences snow.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It is on my bucket list but I don't know when I can go to since I really need to work hard. Maybe in my retirement?
• United States
6 Dec 18
@tech40 You aren't able to take time away from work? Or you aren't able to afford to go to another country? I would set aside $1 or $2 per week and let that be towards a trip and then decide where you want to go. I know you live in the Tropics, what's the closest country to you that experiences winter and that you are able to travel to?

I don't have snow here,   but we are currently experiencing a rainy season, and it makes it difficult for us to do activities outside the home

I can imagine that it also can cause a lot of structural damage to homes.

It has been cold but just seasonal. They can't seem to decide how much freezing rain or snow we will get. It doesn't sound like it will be too much. It could just stay to the South too..but my guess is we will get something.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think we may get ground cover, but not much more. At least that should mean no real trouble in terms of the party.

7 Dec 18
@snowy22315 Ah yes I forgot about your party. Well, send it all down here to us. I know we expect 8 inches now, and I just saw a snippet of a report talking about how much the boone area etc will get. Last Year I think it was, my best friend and I drove up to the mountain near her (I forget the name of it but it borders close to VA) and it was snowing. It was like.. March. It was so pretty though.

We do not have snowfall here but during the rains I do make it a point to stock some necessary items just in case it floods in my are and we are stuck in the house for a couple of days.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes the prep is not much different. Except for snow you know in advance and are well prepared but with rains one can never predict.

Yes, I'm sure that the prep for flooding and for snow / ice isn't all that different. We have to worry about power outages, and of course frozen pipes.

We are under that same weather warning that it could snow or ice on Sunday and Monday. Luckily, I have enough food here. I refuse to go into any grocery store this weekend!

I used to work for a grocery store. I only went into work once when it was snowing and we left early as well. I was working third shift and so we were able to leave.

The Weather Channel is reporting different than what I see everywhere else. The Weather Channel seems to think we will get a mix. I am hoping for more of the snow than anything else. Has your school stated talking about bad weather plans for the upcoming week?

@DWDavis I am sure that probably puts a little stress on the families though, wondering if their children will be going to school or if they will have to make arrangements for them. Does your school operate a bus to pick children up?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I talked to my Principal before I left today and we decided we weren't going to let it snow or get icy here. Fat lot of good making that decision will do us, of course. Other than that, we will rely on our current foul weather plan should we need it. One nice thing about teaching at an independent parochial school is getting to decide for ourselves when and whether to close or not.

Snow is expected the 14th of December, surely not something I like, because it's the day we need to go to Italy.

It's not snowing here. Thank goodness. Floridians would freak out more than they do for a hurricane if we were getting snow. It's in the forties or fifties. I haven't checked today's temps yet.

I am sure you will see snow pictures because of me. I love going out in it after it's all fallen or during it. Even here in NC, we hardly know what to do. A lot of places shut down.

@ScribbledAdNauseum it "snowed" early this year. But it wasn't enough for me to even consider it snow. It was a dusting if that. The last year I lived in Oregon we got four feet.

@Janet357 Oh I love a good wind but then I always worry about structural damage. We have lots of trees around us. One winter we had a tree that fell right between our house and the neighbors. We were so lucky it fell straight down and not to the side.

It is cold, but I believe it is predicted to stay dry. I have bread in the freezer and stuff to make more if need be. I have powdered milk, and canned milk, so that is not something I stock up on.I have canned meats and stews and all kinds of things we could live on if need be.

We always have to scramble to get things. It's all I can do to cook twice a week. The other two like to eat out, I prefer to fix food. They've said it might be closer to 10 inches instead of 14. I just want snow, and enough that it stays a few days.

Warm and wet here. Currently experiencing temperatures more akin to September than December. Allegedly it will turn soon. We rarely see snow in England. And if we do, we only get 2 or 3 inches max, it only lasts two or three days. The last proper snow we had in my area was in 2012.

North Carolina weather changes day by day. Earlier this week I wore a hoodie and a pair of leggings and ended up being too warm. The next day I wore short sleeves and leggings and was too cold. We've had some rain here but it's been mostly dry. Last night I saw snow clouds in the sky, today it's just overcast. I don't mind rain, but there is such a thing as too much. I'd be annoyed with it after awhile.

We may not get as much as was expected but ti will still be enough to keep us indoors. I will be doing some prep work tomorrow evening just in case of power outages.
