Local Character named Frog

That is what David Miller is known as locally. He came to Eugene from Ohio back in the 1970s. He has become a cultural institution around here
selling what he calls "The World's Funniest Recycle Joke Books." He is a fixture on the street nearest the University of Oregon, greeting one and all.
He (maybe) graduated from the University of Ohio after studying journalism, worked for a while on the Cincinnati Enquirer then decided newspapers were not for him and launched is joke book career.
The city of Eugene tried to make the case that it was illegal to sell anything other than food or drink on the streets of our fair city back in 1990, but the Oregon Supreme Court said Frog is on legal ground. He publishes adult and children's joke books three times per year.
Frog has been voted Best Campus Personality and Best Rabblerouser as well. His fame extends to Face Book, where he has around 5000 friends.
I bought a kids' book the other day and chatted with him for a bit. Here is an example: Why did Humpty Dumpty have a great fall? To make up for a rotten summer.
Any well-known local characters where you live?

@JamesHxstatic - Frog sounds delightful and reminds me a little of my eccentric brother-in-law who is a street musician and lives in Eureka, CA. I have attached a photo of him with my husband and me. I think you can guess which one is "Brother James" as he likes to be called, even by his friends! LOL

@JamesHxstatic - Yes, I'm sure they would be great friends. I think they both look a bit like the carving of the ship captain, too! LOL

@JamesHxstatic He surely is. I should go to the local Christmas Market and see if there are interesting characters from our community.

I thought it was funny. Here in Jerusalem if someone is trying to sell something around Jerusalem and does not have permission then they could get a fine. There are people that have permission and can sell but others take their chances. Why do they call him Frog?
