Years and years ago, when I was 8 years old, I had the worst Christmas ever. Two days before Christmas I started feeling a little bad. I developed a fever and my stomach started to act up. On Christmas Eve I ended up miserable and in bed all day. Bu the end of the day I couldn't move without throwing up. My head was pounding, my stomach was aching, I felt like dying. Yep! I had the flu. I couldn't even get up to open gifts on Christmas morning. What a horrible Christmas for someone who was still young enough to be excited about the arrival of Santa. It wasn't until the 4th day after Christmas when I felt well enough to get up and unwrap a few gifts. It just wasn't the same. Not only did I still feel kind of bad but the excitement of Christmas had come and gone. What was the worst Christmas you remember having?

@CarolDM I wish you peace. I don't mean to sound like a know it all. The brother nearest to me passed on suddenly two days before Christmas, the year he just turned 43. Hugs from me for you.

my worst Christmases when we have to go and visit our very rich relatives … and see them exchange gifts and we have nothing under the tree. those were the days ..

@Mavic123456 I'm glad the time finally came when you no longer went to their Christmas parties.

@HazySue we are poor relatives... who visit rich relative to spend Christmas to be able to eat good food and ask for a little gift usually money. but it's fine because time came we didn't go to their Christmas party anymore we have our own family party... we do the same as they do. it means we no ask for their small amount of money anymore...

I have no doubt about this, it was Christmas 1995, the sister of my mother passed away on that day. While we were all sitting around the table to start the Christmas lunch she received the call.

@HazySue Statistics prove that the first day of every year is also the deadliest.

That is so awful.. It seems that many of us lose a love one close to a holiday.

@LadyDuck That;s true but it does seem as though it comes more often during holidays.

I'm sorry you had a bad Christmas that year. I don't recall a bad Christmas. I had some slim Christmases with only one gift under the tree for each of my kids and us. We didn't have a tree one year, but I made one out of ribbon. It looked pathetic, but since my kids were toddlers and didn't understand about Christmas yet, it was good.

I hate it when it rains on Christmas eve like you cannot enjoy it outside with your friends or relatives. I remember too during Christmas, I had a toothache.

A toothache at Christmas is not good. Especially when you can't make it stop aching.

We went to my grandparents. My cousin was there. She received every gift either my brother or I wanted, and a few more to boot. Seeing things under the tree, thinking they were for us and she got them all (yes, we each got one or two things from our list) was hard. She especially rubbed it in to my little brother. Her mom worked hard and spent big trying to make up for the fact that she was an only child with a single parent. That would be worst as a kid. Next worst was when my first husband was terminally ill. Christmas was the last time he tried to eat anything by mouth and he choked on it.

It would be hard. It is something you never forget. As a parent I would never allow this to happen. I am so sorry to hear about the Christmas when your husband was terminally ill.

My worst Christmas ever was when I was 8-years-old. I had turned 8 on October 30 and one week later, on November 5, 1955, my father was killed in a car crash. That made Christmas that year the worst one of my life.

I developed a terrible earache about 3pm on Christmas Eve and by 9pm both eardrums had burst. Needless to say, Christmas was spent in bed feeling very sorry for myself.

That's what I would do if I felt bad like that. As an adult I would voluntarily stay in bed.

That would be the one just after my father lost his job. We had no money. Our Christmas dinner was chicken curry out a tin and all I got as a Christmas gift was a tin of toffees. When I had eaten them all I turned the tin upside-down and made a drum out of it. I was 8

I guess our worst was the year our teenage son was rebelling against us and God and didn't come home one Christmas Eve, nor was he here Christmas day. It took a while, but God helped him grow up and rescued him. Now he's a fine father and son that we're very proud of. I'm sure that was a terrible Christmas for you when you were too sick to enjoy it.

I am glad that life straightened out for him. Sometimes teens go through that rebellious period of time, luckily you son out grew. it
