It Irks Me When Security Personnel Would Just Command Their Stick To Check Your Bag

When security guards at the entrance of malls and departments stores check our bags, I can’t help but to have some few words in my mind. They must at least know how to approach their customers. I have no problem with this kind of procedure for safety, aside from the electronic device they installed. Anyway, I am not generalizing them because I still encountered people who are polite in approaching you in other places. But this particular department store in our place, I should say that none of them are exempted. I never found anyone yet that separate from others. If only they’re the one I am buying, I should not come back in this store. The procedure that does not sit well to me is there approach. At least they must utter few words for permission and not just let you to submit your bag for inspection because that’s the rule. It really irks me when they just command their stick signaling you to open your bag so that they can see what’s inside. I hope you do not have the same experience in your places. I think that people here would fill a complain and they all would stop to go to the malls. We have nothing like this.

@LadyDuck Overall, I understand well the rule and scenario. It's for everybody safety as we'll never know when the bad elements would strike. I might be very sensitive in the SG's actions and that's what cause me that feelings.

In Germany, my bags have never been inspected. There are no guards at the entrance of department stores.

@MALUSE Same here and anyway only the official police would be allowed to "inspect your bag", private security agents are not allowed. If they have the doubt that someone stole goods, they bring the person in a small room and call the police, they can touch nothing.

@LadyDuck I think they have that procedures too when they detected that someone has done the stealing. In this case, this is when you're about to enter where at the entrance they would look into your bag; just a small bag you have either shoulder or sling bags.

That really a big difference but I believe that they are doing that for safety especially that malls and crowded places are subject for attack so they want to check what's inside in the bag so that it won't pass if some bad elements would try.

Yes, there are few who doesn't check and I experienced that. I am bringing all the time my sling bag and most of the guard would look into it.

We have different experience. When I was new here, when I get to the mall, I automatically opened my bag and showed the contents to the guard. The guard almost got a heart attack (exaggeration) seriously the guard was so surprised when I did that. I was so embarrassed when I saw the reaction from the guard's face.

The gesture is what really irks me. I just keep my mouth from speaking because in the end, I'm sure I would be misunderstood.

Well I got used to this procedure already in our place. The security would brisk you and let you bags get inspected. I just think its for the safety of everyone in the mall. Ever since the bombing of malls decades ago people seems to have accepted this checking of bags on malls and other public places.

They should at least do that. It's not about demanding respect or to be respected but a little politeness on their part won't hurt them.
