A Morning of Saving

When you can save, be it time or money, it's just always a good thing, is it not?
And this morning was a day of that. Saving.
Started out by saving 10% on an order I placed at VistaVapors this morning since I needed a few vape supplies. Then it was off for some errands. I saved time by using Great Clip's pre-check-in online feature. So I was able to walk right in and sit down in the barber's chair immediately.
Then it was off to the grocery store. My wife works there as a pharmacy technician, and so we get 10% off any store branded items, which includes meats. Found a manager's special on a beef roast and saved about $2 per pound on that. They had sirloin chops on sale for $1.29 and so that was a good deal (and actually $1.16 per pound with the employee discount).
I even used my Wyndham Rewards gift card which was valued at $100, something I get from accumulated points from hotels I stay at during my business travels.
Hell, if I would have needed gas, I'd have saved on that too. It was only $2.09 per gallon.
I did pay it forward a little bit and dropped a buck into the bell ringer's bucket outside the grocery store. All in all, good.

I am a firm believer in a penny saved is a penny earned.

@Hannihar Why on Earth not? You do know that all brand names are are good marketing. The quality of generic items is actually on par and sometimes better than the brand names, and very much less expensive. Marketing is what makes a brand name cost more...NOT because it is better. But because the master marketers have made it their business to convince you that what they are selling is better. It's rarely the case that a brand name is better than anything else you might buy. But the premium price is solely based on the fact that someone THINKS it is better.

I very rarely ever use coupons simply because most of the time I can still get the generic stuff cheaper than the branded stuff with the discount. But I do keep my eyes open since sometimes those branded items are on sale, and when you can get them on sale AND apply a coupon...it becomes cheaper.

The bottom of our grocery docket shows how much you've saved during that particular shop. We are always keen to see the figure. I think the highest has been about $28 dollars. We always joke that if we'd bought twice as much we'd have saved twice as much.

They do the same thing here. I don't always get so excited since I have threshold prices, and so when I think about what they base those savings on, they are the regular prices, and since I never pay regular prices, the savings are never quite as great for me overall. But I get the concept. It's a brilliant marketing scheme let me tell you.

Waste not, want not is what I always say. If you take great care in earning as much as you can, saving money away and saving money when spending...you are really never left wanting for anything you cannot afford, and it's always a good thing to spend cash and avoid whipping out credit cards.

That's a great way to go. I can't remember who said it, but there was a quote that said, "The best way to save money is to fold it up and put it back into your pocket." Can't always avoid spending, of course. But you CAN control how much you spend on whatever it is you need to, or want to spend on.
