A Sad Moment in Our Home

This morning my wife and I reached the heartbreaking decision that it was time to say goodbye to our son's cat, Tiger, and let him cross the Rainbow Bridge. Over the last few days, Tiger showed all the signs of being ready to go. We called our son and let him know it was time. Our son agreed. Then I called the vet and they had an opening this morning. My wife said a tearful goodbye to Tiger before he and I left for the vet. I video called my son so he could say his fair well. Then Tiger and I made the long trip into town. I held up well until the doctor came in with the shot that would send Tiger across the Bridge. We'd had time while we waited for me to hold Tiger in my lap and tell him what a good cat he'd been while I gave him pats and scratches on last time. As we waited for the shot to take affect the tears started. After it was over and I walked back to my truck with Tiger's empty crate, I bawled like a baby. The photo is of Tiger snoozing on my desk while I worked at my computer taken about 4 years ago.

Thank you. I know it was the right thing to do but knowing that doesn't make it easier.

I am sorry to hear that. It is hard to say goodbye to a pet that has been a part of the family for a long time. I remember the time we took our cat to the vet for the last time. It was terrible to carry the empty crate back to the car, but I also know that it was the right decision.

Rest in peace Tiger. I feel so sorry for you. I had my dog, Magic, die in 2015 and my dog, Secret, die in 2018. She was 9 years old and he was 14 years old. I love the photo of Tiger on your desk from 4 years ago.

It is so painful losing a pet. I am so sorry for your wife, you and your son! I am glad you were able to do this since your son wasn't able to be there to do it. I am sure he really appreciated it!

Thank you. My son was home over Thanksgiving and Tiger was doing okay then. But over the last week and especially the last few days it became obvious he was ready to make the trip over the Bridge.

Thank you, Jennifer. Please pray especially for my son. I think it is hitting him the hardest. Tiger was his cat. He brought Tiger home as an 8-week old kitten and they were together every day until our son went off to college.

It is always a truly sad situation @DWDavis and boy do I understand how you feel. I've been there too many times and it is always heart-wrenching. And at 19-years old, it doesn't make it any easier; if anything, it is harder. I'm so sorry you lost your loving baby.

My heart goes out to you. Poor Tiger. May he Rest In Peace. We just went through that with our son’s cat, Kuma, on October 18th. We still cry over her.

@DWDavis Thank you, and I certainly know how you feel. Yes, they are at peace and no longer suffering, but we have to get through the grieving process. It’s still too fresh and they leave such a void in our heart and lives.
