No, That was NOT okay.

To Whomever it may Concern At Walmart - I've noticed that you have adapted the same thing as amazon now. You have created your own courier service so to speak, allowing individuals to deliver packages for your customers. This is all fine and good, but might I suggest a few stipulations and guidelines that your courier's follow? Number 1 : It is not okay for the couriers to use their cellphone to shine a light inside of a person's home. This has happened me to me today, and is in fact the reason I am contacting you. I witnessed a van drive around my cul de sac and stopping in front of my driveway several times. My family and I thought this was peculiar, but we assumed they were looking for a specific address. It was dark outside. The address they were looking for was apparently mine. Please refer back to the light being shined through my family room window. This brings me to my second suggestion. Number 2) All couriers should conduct their business before the sun sets. Ideally all deliveries should be finished before 4 pm. This allows for the packages to be delivered in daylight no matter the time of year, unless of course it is in Alaska, in which case you are on your own there. Well those are my two suggestions. You can imagine how startled we were to have a person right outside our window and shining a light within. Sincerely, A Concerned Customer

I wonder what would have happened had you called 911 on the courier or if you'd appeared on your porch with a shotgun in hand and asked him/her what they were doing on your porch.

I actually thought about saying that to the customer service representative. I could have come outside with a shotgun in my hand. A new police station has just opened up down the road from me. My cellphone was in my bedroom on the other side of the house and I happened to have a fleeting thought of "should I go get that just in case something bad happens?" It was only an innocent package delivery but you can never be too careful now.

@DWDavis No,not that I could tell. They looked to be in plain clothes. It would not have been a person from the local walmart as I ordered this from walmart.com. I've had things delivered from amazon and haven't noticed their couriers wearing anything associated with the amazon brand either. You do bring up a good point though. I might have to suggest that when I call corporate in the morning. How is it there? I will be sharing pictures in a post here later. It is still snowing here. I've been watching Jim Cantore in Boone on the weather channel.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Was the courier wearing anything that immediately identified them as being from Walmart, such as a hat, vest, or even a name tag?

That is very rude of them and I hope something is done when you contact corporate on Monday.

I hope so too. I've already contacted them once. The lady said that the system they have is different from the system the corporate office has. I am not sure why or how, but she made record of what I said and asked me to please contact corporate directly as well.

@Tina30219 The idea of people that aren't backed by government entities (USPS for instance) delivering packages is kind of scary to me.

I didn't know Wal-Mart delivered. Ours doesn't. I would not appreciate someone shining a light in my home either.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh. Well sure, UPS or USPS.
• United States
9 Dec 18
@AmbiePam Not what I was referring to You know how amazon now has drivers that deliver packages? It's not UPS or USPS. Walmart now has the same thing. I am saying they probably have implemented it nationwide, so there are probably individuals not affiliated with USPS or UPS that deliver for walmart to your area.

It's not walmart local, it's walmart.com. So most likely, walmart "delivers" in your area.

@snowy22315 I thought so, and I will do so. I may also write about this on reddit.

I contacted a customer service rep on chat with walmart.com. They suggested I also contact corporate directly on Monday morning.

That's insane. You could have thought of something else, right? Like a thief in the night. Yes, I believe that they should deliver before the sun sets. Unless if it was a pizza delivery boy.

@JustBhem I agree. There's too much danger in this world. People need to be more conscious of their actions.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I believe that. For Walmart delivery, they should have contacted you earlier.

I've already contacted walmart.com and they recorded it but also asked me to contact corporate. I will make sure they take it seriously. I've also considered posting it on the local walmart's facebook page in hopes everyone local will see it.

@porwest I'm about to call corporate. I hadn't thought about it until you replied here a few minutes ago. I'll see what they say, and if I'm not completely satisfied I'll be blaring it across social media.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That would be a good idea as well. Even a company as big as Walmart knows people pay attention to what others think, and it CAN impact their business.

When I got the tracking email there was wording that I wasn't familiar with. It didn't say "delivery by UPS, USPS or anything like it. I think fed ex usually delivers for walmart. I didn't think anything of it at all. I appreciate the individual delivering it before the snow tomorrow, but honestly I wish they hadn't shined their light through my window. I"ll update everyone with another discussion as soon as I talk to walmart corporate.

Are you sure it wasn't accidental? He may have been scanning the package or taking a photo with a flash to prove delivery. I agree it's good to get things delivered before dark, but during the Christmas rush it may not be possible. Even UPS delivers in the dark sometimes. I do relate to not wanting someone shining a light into your home.

No, I am most certain it was not accidental. He had gone around my cul de sac several times, he was not sure if it was our address. He raised his arm in the air and shined the light into our window. The window is not at eye level.

This is extremely rude. Nothing is delivered here after 4 pm, until there is still daylight. Couriers are not allowed to "look inside a home", they simply need to ring the bell.

This was not a courier from one of the official places. We have UPS, FED EX, and the USPS here. This was a walmart employed courier. Of course, the same rules apply to them. I've already contacted walmart.com's customer service and was told to also call corporate tomorrow. I plan to do so as soon as I wake up.

That is not good at all. I sometimes get Amazon packages dropped off around 8 PM but they are left on my friends' porch and then someone picks up the package and give it to me. You are right though best to get it done in the daytime hours.

It wasn't late as it was only 6 pm but it was still late considering how early it gets dark. I will have to hope something is done to rectify the situation in the future.

They are a lot like Amazon in hiring people who drive their own vehicles. With all the theft lately, it can be a sticky situation delivering at night and the owners are not aware of it being a delivery.
• United States

This is true. Now amazon usually sends me a message saying my package will be delivered today. I don't believe I got that from walmart. By message I mean text. I do believe that these new courier services have a lot of dings to work out.

I wasn't aware either. When I got the shipping notification I noticed that it was labelled differently but I didn't make too much note of it because I hardly shop from walmart.com
