1. The name of the capital is Sofia.
2. The language is close to Russian. Bulgarians use the Cyrillic alphabet.
3. The official religion is Bulgarian Orthodoxy.
4. The country is a member of the EU. If I'm not mistaken, Bulgaria is the poorest member of the EU.
5. Many Bulgarians work abroad for low wages.
6. I haven't read anything about Bulgaria in German newspapers for ages. This means that the problems the country has are obviously not of international interest. I don't know if this is a good thing or not.

@autumngirll I wonder if you have understood my comment at all. I've mentioned six items which you want to see as 'only' negative.
What is negative about the name of the capital, the language or the religion? The fact that we read nothing about the country in our newspapers can be seen as negative only by you who obviously wants to see my comment as negative throughout.
I said nothing negative about the Cyrillic alphabet. It was developed by the Greek monks Cyrill and Method in the First Bulgarian Empire.
The fact that Bulgaria is poor and many Bulgarians work abroad are sad facts but in no way negative or insulting.

p.s. Yes, we use the Cyrillic alphabet but moreover, it was developed by the First Bulgarian Empire

I have been to Sofia, but I was ill during our trip there and I didn't manage to see much of the city. We visited the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and an indoor market, I don't remember the name of it. We wanted to visit Plovdiv as well, but we didn't manage to do that. I hope that I will get the chance to visit Bulgaria again. Where is the photo from?

@autumngirll Thanks, I thought that it looked like the cathedral, but I wasn't sure. Yes, it will be nice to come back, hopefully I will be able to do more sightseeing next time

Nice to hear that you have visited Bulgaria! I'm sorry that you have been sick during your trip, I wish you'll have the possibility to come back and see all you couldn't. The photo is from the Alexander Nevsky cathedral in Sofia

I know that Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. I haven't been able to visit it yet. Though in 2006 I did a trip to Bulgaria and Romania. I visited the beautiful historical town of Plovdiv which I found charming in the lovely looking old town. I visited Varna and Burgos the two coastal towns. I visited a little village that was so lovely. I also visited a coastal area on a national park which was pristine. I hope to visit Sofia in the future.
