Ask not for whom the Girlfinder seeks, for it seeks for thee. We have reached Top 5 status, and at #5, the Girlfinder found "De-Luxe" by Lush. Featuring a sound not unlike that of alternative music darlings, the Cocteau Twins, Lush was a shoegazer band formed by vocalist/guitarist Miki Berenyi and guitarist/vocalist Emma Anderson in 1987 in London. (Fun Fact: Miki Berenyi's mom, actress Yasuko Nagazumi, appeared in the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice, and the television series, Space: 1999.) Lush generally received positive critical acclaim, and thanks to MTV's Sunday night alternative music show, 120 Minutes, did fairly well in the States, with several singles charting high on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart (oddly, those singles tended to chart higher here than on the UK Singles chart. Weird.) "De-Luxe" was an early single that was made available on the 1990 compilation album, Gala, which was assembled to introduce the band to the United States and Japan. The tune failed to chart in Britain, but did reach #14 on that Billboard chart. It's quite lovely, actually, an ethereal, yet muscular song with Berenyi and Anderson's vocals veering close to dream pop territory. Although there have been a couple of concert reunions, and an EP, Lush effectively ended in 1996 with the suicide of drummer Chris Acland. (I will go to my grave insisting that my buddy and I actually spoke to Miki Berenyi at the 1989 Werchter Festival in Werchter, Belgium. It couldn't have been anyone but her, but I only realized it after the fact. We talked to her because we loved her hair!) (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Pretty Japanese girl with cool hairstyle, dyed shocking, bright red, with a sexy British accent, at an alternative music festival. It had to be her.

MTV played them a lot. There used to be an alternative music station on the Air Force Academy (no idea if it's even around anymore.) They played them once in awhile.
