I pick up money. I consider coins in the street as abandoned if I do not see a person that could have dropped it. If it is a wallet, I will do everything I can to get it back to the owner or turn it into security, If I see someone drop money, I will tell them.

@lady1993 I found $15 blowing in the wind once. It was on a windy day at a mall. I picked up a $10 and a $5 and looked around to see who might have dropped it. The bills were very dirty. There was no one around at all. It was like a lost world. I figured that God blew it my way and I kept it.

We had a rhyme (never mind the bad grammar) when I was a child:
"See a penny, pick it up: all the day you'll have good luck
See a penny, let it lay: you'll have bad luck all the day".
Lost money isn't anybody's if it's small change, though, of course, if I see anyone drop a coin, I will pick it up and do my best to restore it to them. Larger amounts, too, aren't meant to be kept by the finder, especially if they are in a purse or wallet.
Mostly, if I pick up small change, I will put it into the next collection box I see. I did once find a £10 note but I spent it in a charity shop on a present for someone.

Yes, if that happens to me, maybe I'll be like what you did ...
on the grounds that it wasn't mine
