I found the answer. The best answer to my question and it is quite simple, really. From Yahoo! Answers, the link is below to look at. But my own take away on the problem is to just not drive unless absolutely necessary. A car costs more than any other thing, including medical costs. I mean, that car of ours is a gas guzzling monster that needs a tune up. It has one year to go before calling it an antique. There are bus routes and light rail stations nearby. I hardly see anyone walking but the sidewalks are still the best way to get from place to place by foot. The way the city is laid out is so that people in a residential area on the grid, have access to a hospital within 8 linear miles, as the crow flies, grocery stores, libraries, schools all within a mile or two within walking distance. We have a bike route just a block away and a large public park and recreation center just half a mile away. I like the way Oak Cliff is at the moment, and it is a good thing that people do have access to places within under 8 miles from their homes, but that is not where the problem lies. The problem lies with the fact that most people take the freeway to and from work because most people in Oak Cliff do not work in Oak Cliff, but work in North Dallas or another city near Dallas, that makes commuting in their vehicle the only choice to get to and from their workplaces. There are some good park and ride places to go and drive and park your vehicle all day and take a light rail or bus to your workplace, and in many cases this is a good thing, but in spite of the few well made bus and light rail stations in Oak Cliff, there are still far too many people on the roads. Instead of driving a Humvee or a minivan to work, one might get better mileage and take up less parking space if they would consider the option to driving a small vehicle that uses less gas, has more fuel efficiency and costs less to maintain. I hardly even ever see a motorbike on the streets of Dallas. Most people drive Sports Utility Vehicles and pick up trucks. The option to recycle in Dallas is provided by the City of Dallas Sanitation department at no extra cost to the residents. The Big Blue Tote is a place we all have options to place recyclable items like newspapers, cereal boxes, empty aluminum cans and other items that CAN BE RECYCLED. And when going out consider planning your driving route so you can get to all the places you need to get to by making more right turns and planning ahead so you reduce the amount of gas to get from place to place on your daily run for out and about in the city of Dallas, TX. Navigation apps and such are the thing to use when driving. Your app can tell you where you need to travel to make good time. I even use an app on my computer that lets me know the driving conditions of local main roads and freeways within my zip code area so I can plan around it if I go out on the street to run errands. If you are like me, you tend to wait until the weekend to go shopping. Well, the weekend is when more people shop and the weekend is more busy and more crowded than the weekday. So if you plan your shopping on days when traffic in the stores is light, all the better for you to plan that way. There is a lot you can do. You can keep track of your miles and try to use less gas by doing things online by ordering things from Amazon or Walmart or Target that get some things you need or want and have them ready to pick up at the store or have them delivered to your house so you do not have to spend time in traffic, and do not have to go hunting for those items and don't have to wait in long lines to pay for them and then you have more time to enjoy doing the things you like to do at home or at a recreation center or park to spend time exercising, doing sports, or just visiting friends. You can choose to go to Starbucks and sit there with your Choco-Late-Cream-Brule' or you can buy a bag of Starbucks coffee and brew it at home in your own coffee maker. If you want to save money and time, just find things to do online or find a good book or two to read. It helps lower blood pressure to walk and to meditate so focus on the things that help heal your stress. And while you are not out there driving like a mad dog on steroids, wasting gas and polluting the air you will be having a good time just chilling.
I have to produce a original idea on how to reduce carbon emissions in a typical secondary school. It must have a noticable impact on the school and use 21st century technology.

That is a fantastic and great idea. You can cut down on emissions, and cut individual fuel costs and take turns driving. Take a look at this article about what 4Ocean is doing to put an end to plastic pollution solutions below.

I sold my car some years ago. There is a supermarket nearby and I walk there. Then I take a taxi when I buy more things than what I can carry. I discovered that taxis (now Uber is cheaper) are a better option than to have a car at the garage. Here I have to pay for maintenance, yearly permit and all that to use it rarely. Taxis take me to the Metro and I use public transportation to go across the city. I also gave away my dryer (to my eldest daughter who had 3 kids and worked) and I wash when the sun shines. In winter, I hung the clothes in the bathroom. The garments dry with the same energy I use to have my bedroom and bathroom warm. The list can be very long.

I found this YouTube today, January 5, 2019.
What else can I possibly say about it....? We are living in a precarious age. We are not sure what to do, or if we CAN do anything at all. We have mostly goo...

I try to be carbon-efficient, but it can be hard when you live in a sprawling place like the San Francisco Bay Area.

its too hot to be walking around in 100* plus weather. maybe wearing shoes not made of carbon could also help.

This is the old think globally and act locally. The little bits we do all add up. It took me a few years, but I don't miss having a car anymore; and of course there is the money to saved from not running one. Our local council is very good and have an extensive recycling collection service and once a month they open a temporary recycling centre within easy bike & trailer ride. Handy for my unexpected recycling needs
