A Completely Different Tree This Year

For the past ten years or so, our tree has been more formal. Everything had to be blue and silver and very elegant but this year, I didn't want to open those boxes. Instead, all of the old decorations... the ones the kids had made over the years were placed instead Nothing matches, it's just what I felt was important. It's in the basement, so hubby had no idea until he walked down stairs to see what I was doing. The look on his face was priceless... :)

I've never been a fan of color coordinated Christmas Trees. We've always decorated ours with an eclectic mix of ornaments collected over the years. Some we received from family and friends, some we inherited from family long gone, others we bought for our boys as they grew up. Nothing matches but we love the way it looks.

It's not necessary to have something "perfect", sometimes something spontaneous is a lot better.

We've had that kind of tree for years because my husband and I would usually just let our two kids decorate the tree the way they want it. :o) And I kinda like that. This year though they finally agreed on a color theme, so it's blue and silver now.

I bet that it is gorgeous! If we ever get this house sorted out, I just might consider a family tree in the basement and a formal tree upstairs... best of both worlds

@Hate2Iron Having two different trees is a great idea. I thought about getting one for our bedroom upstairs but that didn't materialize. Maybe next year I could work on that.
