Hey! Ho! Let's go! It's Girlfinder time! And today it's a good one (as if they all haven't been good thus far!) We are at #4: "Zombie" by The Cranberries. Formed in 1989 in Limerick, Ireland, The Cranberries were an alternative rock band that came to prominence with their 1993 debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, and it's hit single, "Linger." With over 40 million records sold worldwide, the group was an international success, and placed four albums in the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Cranberries effectively ended with the 2018 drowning of vocalist/guitarist Dolores O'Riordan, with the other three members expressing no desire to continue without her. As great as that debut was, their 1994 follow-up, No Need to Argue, remains the band's best selling album, thanks in large part to the record's first single, "Zombie." I have made no secret of my love of protest songs, and "Zombie" is a really, really good one. If you are of a certain age group, you are likely well aware of the long-time war conducted by the Provisional Republican Irish Army against the government of Great Britain. In 1993, the PRIA carried out two separate bomb attacks in Warrington, England, the second of which killed two young boys, Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry. "Zombie" was written in protest of those attacks. The song was an international smash hit, charting in 20 countries (Top 20 in two of those, Top 5 in 18, hitting #1 in seven of those, and while it didn't land on the Billboard Hot 100, it did reach #1 on that magazine's Alternative Songs chart.) Like I said, a smash hit! R.I.P., Dolores. Your vocals were awesome! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I like this one. Her voice reminds me of Jewel.

I always liked the Cranberries. Linger is my favorite song by them.

I instantly liked them the first time I saw the "Linger" video on 120 Minutes.

You listen to someone like her, then listen to the “pop superstar du jour,” and you just have to shake your head.

Sad, isn't it? She definitely didn't need Auto Tune and all the other stuff they use to manufacture these "stars."

That is one of my favorite songs by her. I also like the remake that Bad Wolves did of that song.

Dolores probably had more power, but it's there.
