It's been a week. I keep feeling like I am on a roller-coaster and the brakes are not on. The new diagnosis of spinal arthritis has really beaten me down. I have met with the doctor who will be doing the injection in my spine, and he's walked me through what will happen. To be honest, I'm scared. Really scared. And there isn't much that frightens me anymore. But this does. J has been usually solicitous of me. And I'm trying to rest as Dr K told me to do. I'm just depressed. I did finish reading the Flavia de Luce novels, and I really like them. They're funny, snarky, well-written and told through the eyes of an eleven year old girl. Who studies chemistry, with quite a few quirks of her own. Those who love mysteries, will enjoy these. I can't wait for the next one, The Golden Tresses of the Dead, due in January. There's another due then, The Witches of St. Petersburg. I tried reading Cascadia's Fault, nonfiction about the Cascadia Subduction Zone, and it's gone back onto the Mt. TBR Shelf. It's geology, a subject that I love, but it's such heavy going in this one that I kept finding other things to do. Bad sign indeed. Now I've moved onto a biography of Clementine Churchill, whom I am discovering was quite an amazing person in her own right. Now this, I find very interesting. Last night I made a new recipe (for the second time) I found in the latest issue of Cook's Country. It's potato and cabbage soup with bacon, and it went very quickly. I think it will be added to our recipe rotation. Tomorrow night -- steak! J's favourite meal. And that is all right now.
