I started watching a movie on Netflix that I really enjoyed in the theater. Julie and Julia tells the story of Julie Powell played by Amy Adams who gets the idea to replicate all of Julia Child's recipes and blog about it. For one year, after work every day she sets out to cook, and cook she does, despite exhaustion and food trials and tribulations.I think Julie was one of the original food bloggers and had a great following on her blog. The movie skips back and forth between her life and the life in Paris of Julia Child, played by Meryl Streep. I remember at one time making Child's Beef Bourginnone which took hours, although it was delicious. My hat goes off to Julie Powell..What a feat!

I loved that movie as I love to cook. It was awesome how Julie even learns how to shop for the ingredients in spite of not having the money to do it.

Yes, it was tough but she got it done somehow. I am not sure I could ever commit to a project that much!

@snowy22315 I would have given up at the beginning. And her husband was a saint. He had to put up with a lot, poor man

I remember watching this movie, and disagreeing with a reviewer who said the life of Julie Powell was boring. I completely disagreed. By the way, if you want to read fascinating stories about Julia Child I recommend reading "Julia Child: a Life" by Laura Shapiro.

I loved that movie! I watched it about 7 years ago with my ex boyfriend. Meryl Streep did a great job in this role!

@snowy22315 I read later that the man and wife divorced and Julia Child wasn't happy with the way she was portrayed.

It sounds like it would be an interesting movie. I may have to find it on netflix, if for no other reason than to see if it would be something I'd like. I've never had beef bourginnone, I wonder if it's good?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, I don't mind doing it once in awhile, but that dish took hours.

@snowy22315 I don't like to be in front of the stove, or in the kitchen, for more than two hours. I try to limit it to an hour if I can. Even if that means doing chopping earlier in the day etc.

@snowy22315 It's nice to make things the more complicated way every once in awhile, the flavors are often more enjoyable and it's good to reap the rewards. I don't make many complicated meals myself, and in fact the most time consuming one I've done was Thanksgiving.
