It never occurred to us when we moved, that we would have trouble getting our furniture into the basement. Yes, it's been a month and we still haven't been able to get some of the furniture into the basement. We have tried twice now and no luck. We finally gave up. Suddenly I was seeing one sofa wedged permanently halfway down the stairs!! Our son said that he would come over on the weekend and we would try taking it out the front door, down the sidewalk, down the path which is a slight hill and through the sliding doors into the basement. Only problem with that is the fact that these sliding doors are ridiculously narrow and I'm not sure the sofa will go through it. Here's hoping that I'm wrong... haha... Has anyone found themselves in such a predicament of furniture not fitting?? photo of sofa from amazon

When we fitted out the bus we often had a bit of trouble getting things through the doors at the front. We put the shower unit through the window opening before we put the windows in. We'd have never have got it in otherwise.

Wow... I never thought of having to move items into a bus. That must have kept the neighbours entertained. Glad the shower finally fit through the window!

@JudyEv That is INSIDE THE BUS! That sounds like the perfect way to travel! I get so tired of hotels. We always tend to be next door to really noisy neighbours!

@Hate2Iron We can't see our neighbours so they never know what we're up to!! Here is the shower unit in the bus. The top had to be cut and shaped to fit the interior.

You can take off your sliding door so that your sofa can pass

The space will not change even if she remove the sliding door.

Before making this big effort, take a ruler and check if the sofa will go through those slide doors.

Why is your flat/apartment in the basement?

It's a house and we are trying to move a couch down a "too tight" flight of stairs to the basement.

I had one of grandmother's sofas moved in here and it was hard to get in here (and out). I had to get rid of that sofa because my cat made a hole in it. My mother bought me a nice new sofa and I once again feared that it wouldn't fit. But it did.

The next time we buy anything, I'm going to measure first. Glad your new sofa was just the right size!!

Our only hope is that our son can help lol... my daughter and I weren't strong enough and it's going to be a heavy trek down the sidewalk and then down a hill to the basement entrance. Should be fun.

Yes. My daughter gave me her sofa when she bought new, and I had to get it up a narrow staircase as I lived in an upper apartment and had trouble getting it up the stairs, then when I moved, I couldn't get it down and ended up cutting it in half and getting rid of it.
