With his punked out spiky white hair and Elvis sneer, Billy Idol is one of the most sexually charged performers from the new wave era. Hear “Rebel Yell.” What began in Britain as Generation X became Billy Idol and Gen X and finally just Billy Idol as his star power ascended. The combination of Idol’s stage presence and his sidekick guitarist Shane Stevens created an 80s icon. “White Wedding” established Idol more than either “Rebel Yell” or “Dancing With Myself.” The gothic themed wedding video received a ton of MTV play. Idol was inspired by his sister’s wedding though the term “little sister” is slang for girlfriend. Idol writes about the woman he loves marrying someone else. From his self titled album, “White Wedding” only reached Billboard #108 but a reissue a year later soared to #36. “White Wedding” can be heard on numerous soundtracks and an overplayed 80s staple.

This song soooo reminds me of junior high. I totally remember the video too (music vids were so much cooler back then). KROQ was our radio station back then!

I'm in the minority of people who didn't really care for the song. I mean, I'd never turn it off (Billy Idol's no Steve Perry vocally), but it just wasn't my cup of tea. No denying what an icon he became in the 80s, though.
