Since this countdown of my favorite Who songs is nearly finished, I wrote complimentary countdowns last night. Two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. You're gonna love it. (And yes, that's sarcasm.) But first, here's the penultimate song on my list of favorite songs by the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band The Who. #2: Another Tricky Day And with that announcement, you probably know what the #1 song is. That is, if you're over the surprise of the inclusion of this song. Hey, I've warned you a time or 600 that a lot of my favorite songs are album cuts and obscure singles, not "the big hits." You could consider this The Who's version of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" ("you can't always get it when you really want it, you can't always get it at all"), but there's more to it than that. While there's that warning that the Stones gave us long ago, there's also an additional warning about the don't-care attitude ("this is no social crisis, this is you having fun") that seemed to be taking off in the late 70s/early 80s (little did we know it would come to this, huh?). While the band says "just gotta get used to it" in the background, Daltrey preaches the message up front, including that great last line: "you know how the ice is: it's thin where you're skating." It should've been a huge hit. It did get considerable FM rock airplay, though. And to me, it's one of The Who's greatest songs. Another Tricky Day Written by Pete Townshend From Face Dances, 1981 This is true:

One of their best 80's tunes for sure. They actually adapted quite well with the decade without becoming synthesizer driven. Could you imagine Pete windmilling on a synthesizer?

Yea, that beings back some memories. I always liked this song but yea it was not one of their big hits, I think it was in 1989 I seen them at a sold out show.
