What's the Difference Between a Hallmark Christmas Movie and a Lifetime Christmas Movie

From what little I've seen of Lifetime Christmas movies compared to the scores of Hallmark Christmas movies my wife and I have watched, I would have to say it is the difference between G rated and PG-rated movies. Hallmark movies are definitely G rated and rarely tackle or even mention things outside the norm. Tonight, on a Lifetime Christmas movie, they had a gay couple. One of the partners was a cop and the other owned a coffee shop. I don't think you'd see that on Hallmark. Also, I thought using the cliche of the cop and the coffee shop was a little too cutesie. The two men who were cast for the roles did make a nice looking couple. Have you watched both networks' Christmas movies? What differences in style and approach have you noticed?

I won't watch movies on either channel. Especially Christmas ones because they are too predictable. Man does something wrong, finds the cure for something wins the girl back. They kiss and it starts snowing. Lol.

Sometimes it's the woman who does something wrong and has to win back the man, and sometimes they both do something wrong, only not really, and still wind up together when in RL they never would.

I prefer Hallmark channel movies as I know they are wholesome for the family.

I know how you feel. We rarely watch Lifetime but the previews for this one seemed innocuous enough and so far it has been. I thought the scene with the cop and coffee shop owner was handled well. It wasn't "in your face" or anything like that.

I watch both networks and there Christmas movies and never reallly paid attention on if there was a difference. I do notice sometimes one channels movie is better than the others.

Do you think the older Hallmark Christmas movies were better made than the more recent ones?

@DWDavis Some of the older ones are better than the newer ones just depends one the people in them that is what makes me the movie at least for me

@Tina30219 I get the feeling a lot of this year's Hallmark Christmas movies were very rushed in every respect, from the writing to the filming, to the post-production work. The quality of the older fare just isn't there, IMHO.

I watched a Hallmark Christmas movie I had recorded on DVR. It starred Candace Cameron Bure, which was the main reason I watched it. I noticed that the kissing was only toward the end of the movie... And I found that a bit weird. And it was a very clean movie. I guess there is a certain rating they don't go over. Usually I don't watch Hallmark or Lifetimes channels.

My wife and I have made a game out of guessing what will interrupt the about to kiss moments in a Hallmark movie if the main couple is about to smooch before the end.

I would rather watch G rated movies on Hallmark over the politically correct movie on Lifetime.

I have found Lifetime movies to being much closer to Hallmark style than in previous years. In a Hallmark, they never kiss until the final moment. In LIfetime, they may kiss earlier on.

I dont watch either of those. But lifetime sounds more interesting. Hallmark to me always tries to show things as perfect.

The appeal of Hallmark is the escape into a fantasy land for two hours away from a sucky real world.

Neither. I know we can get Hallmark here in the UK {I've stumbled across it a few times whilst channel hopping} but not sure about Lifetime. Those sort of wholesome films don't appeal to me anyway!

The LIfetime movies tend to be a little grittier with more confrontation and controversial situations than the Hallmark movies.
