Day 13 John 6:16 John 6:16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, 17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. 18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. 19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. 20 But he said unto them, It is I; be not afraid. 21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. What scares you? With books and movies ready to give you a hair-raising moment, it takes little to scare people today. So, then it isn’t what the imagination dreams up that scares, but fear of the unknown, sickness, disease, terrorists, shooters, who make hearts race and panic. Jesus wasn’t with the disciples when they set out in a ship for Capernaum. He came to them later, walking on water, when the winds were high and the sea contrary. They thought he was a ghost, but a word from him, stilled their fears as he joined them in the ship. As Christians, you know the words be not afraid and fear not, appear throughout Scripture in every conceivable situation. God continually told his children they had nothing to fear when they put their trust in him. David was a man who trusted God in every situation because his enemies surrounded him and King Saul wanted to kill him. Even his son, Absalom, wanted to take his throne from him by force when he tried to kill him. However, David looked to God in every situation. Psalm 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (KJV) David’s response to trouble should be your response. Satan will do everything he can to bring trouble in your life. Yet, when you put your eyes on Jesus and trust him to take you through the storm, he will always see you through and bring you safely to the other side. When an enemy came against David and stole away the women and children of his army while they were away from them, the people wanted to stone him, but David encouraged himself in the Lord. 1 Samuel 30:1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; 2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way. 3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. 4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. 6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. There is no situation in your life, God can’t take care of. You need to trust him to bring you through, just as the disciples trusted Jesus when he came to them on the sea. He calmed the wind and sea and took them to the other side. God will always bring you to the other side. Let’s pray: Father, you showed me you will take care of me in every situation in my life. Help me trust you and encourage myself in you when Satan would bring fear into my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 14 December 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
