Finally, I'm Down to 100 Notifications Again. At Least I Don't Have to Worry About Any of Them Dropping Off

Since I've been more active here, my notifications are normally around 125-160. I try to keep them below that, but it can't always be helped. I also try to make sure I've checked all the older ones out before deleting them just in case I've missed liking a final reply. Just last week I was managing to stay within about three days back with my notifications, but somehow I got behind and can say that I'm up to last Monday now. For the past three days, I've been working a day ahead of the one week fall off period which isn't always exact. What I mean by that is that if you tend to be a week behind with the older notif's and it shows the bottom one on say Dec 7th. Generally, you'd have until midnight or at least it would seem that way to check that one out. But, if the reply was done say at six pm on the 7th, then after 6pm on today's date that would probably disappear. So, I try to keep myself more current. Yesterday, I finished up a week ago Thursday's notifications, and just finished last Fridays. I only have three more to go from last Saturday and then will be more current. That's not to say that I've not seen any of your current repsonses, replies, or comments. I go back and forth between what's new and what's old. And many times the older ones have already been seen by me, but I click on something else that takes my fancy or leave my computer and forget to go back and delete the one I just checked out. But, I refuse to just go on a deleting rampage as some may actually be ones I missed and I may never see them or acknowledge that you paid me any attention. I can't imagine having the time to manage 400 notifs like Valerie and many others here, but maybe once I'm retired, if I have more time to be here, then I'm sure I'll join that group. And, at first I thought this would be a short post, lol. (Written from my desktop-which means hopefully no mistakes).

It took the entire month of November to clear those 400 notifications. I'm keeping them current so have between 65-100 now, depending on when I logged off the day before. This morning it was in the 80s when I came on. You can do it.

I try to keep them under 100 before quitting for the day, but lately they've been near 175 when I begin in the morning,. I don't think I could manage 400 at this point in my life. I know that once I retire if I am able to be here more then they will pile up but that won't be fore some time.

@just4him I don't think it's possible to keep up when it's over one hundred. Either you spend time with everyone that's visiting currently and wait on the older ones, or... Actually, that may be the best way to go as many will hop back if we've replied to their response or comment, whereas sometimes they've moved on to something else by the time we've see it days later. But, I still try to work on some of the older ones in between the rest. Yesterday, I shopped for food and Christmas gifts and it took me almost three hours. That was mainly due to the fact, that I take my time, but also that I had conversations with employees that hadn't seen me for a while. I gave out updates. I also saw a customer that knew I had a new knee last year and wanted to talk about her knee, which wasn't a problems as my time was my own. Then later, I talked with a customer I met in toys and we discussed debt and buying, money and other things. for a while. Then I ended up watching the last season of a Netflix show part of last night, so wasn't here as much as I have been. At least my notifications are more managable than they were earlier in the week. They were only a bit over 100 this morning.

@MarshaMusselman This is my third time here today and I've kept this lot under 50. It can be hard to keep up when you're over a hundred.

Sometimes I finish all my notifications before I go to bed. That way I only see the new ones when I open myLot is next day. I don't always manage to do that, sometimes I leave some of the older notifications and I read them the following days.

@MarshaMusselman I think it is a good idea to open them in a new tab. I hadn't thought of that, but I think it sounds like a good way to keep track of them. If open they directly I sometimes forget to delete them afterwards, and then it gets a bit messy because the ones I have read and ones I haven't read are mixed together. The last couple of days I haven't been here much, and I still have several old notifications that I haven't read yet. I hope to read most of them tonight. Afterwards I will move on the recent discussions which I haven't read at all.

@MarshaMusselman I think that some members don't read all of their notifications. I read a discussions where someone mentioned that there were too many notifications and it wasn't possible to read them all. I have experienced the same thing as you. Sometimes I leave responses and comments that never get acknowledged. I guess that they never read all of the notifications. I often go through the discussions I have started in order to check if I missed anything. Sometimes I delete notifications by mistake, so I like to check if I missed anything. I haven't done it with every single discussion, but I try to do it as much as I can.

@Porcospino That's it exactly, the old ones that you read but didn't delete get mixed with the new ones, but sometimes there are older ones that weren't read either. I many times wonder whether some members that try to keep on top of things assume that any old ones they find they already read because I'll leave responses or comments on the responses of others that never get seen or acknowledged later by anyone. So, I'd rather do it twice to make sure I got everyone than to miss any that took time to visit with me. What I'd also like to do is take time each week and read through that weeks worth of posts I'd written to make sure I didn't miss anything hidden from view. But, I rarely have time to do that on a regular basis.

Do you finish all of yours every day? Or just the current ones or just the older ones perhaps?

@amadeo If you can keep up every day that is amazing. How many notifications do you usually have when your first open up mylot every day? I know the number won't be exactly the same each day, but a guessed average?

Not a problem. A little tongue in cheek, there? Or maybe a pun would also be accurate although it might be lost on others. Now many here miss the actual response when we comment on other people's threads/responses. I try to look at them all to make sure I don't miss them. If I ever have a slower day here when I'm completely caught up I should read back over some of my old posts to make sure I've not missed anyone that came by after the rest. The avatar is one Barry helped me to get. I also had one with christmas lights, that twinkled, but I've no idea which folder I put that one into.

@responsiveme Yeah, that was awful, but although we heard of his pain until his end, we at least are left wondering what ever happened to him. I didn't know him before coming to mylot and he helped me out with computer things quite a bit. He was a dear.

I filter most of my notifications down to only responses to my posts, and responses to posts I comment on, so that helps. I frankly could care less who simply likes something or whatever. I try to keep mine under 100. But I am fairly active here and so that does become a task in and of itself.

There are a few here who only like it at least when they are first starting so o past attention r to that in case I want to visit on merit of likes only, but I often will go through and delete likes odd the top forest before working on the rest. I have done it where I don't get the mentions but that didn't work well so I see both but when I'm here more and when one person left there noticed on one post I will delete the like and one of those paring it down better. But I try to watch a pay attention because otherwise I might miss those that responds to my post and reply to my comments on responses to my posts and that of others. Confusing I know .

Well, you've only started here. Wait until you've been here for three years. I also know a good handful of people from another site we were all on and we keep up with each other here. How long do you usually have to mylot on an average day?

@isweartokira That's definitely a big part of it. And that's okay. If we didn't have any life outside of mylot there would be a lot less to discuss.

lol It is overwhelming when there are too many notifications that's for sure. I have not been on a lot for the last few months, just too busy with other things.

Well at least we see your smiling face here once in a while. I'd rather see people sporadically than not at all. I should be doing many more things than being here but right not this is easier than the other things I should be doing. I do need to get busy since I may have to return to work a few weeks before February if the wound is as closed as it looks to be to me. I get it checked tomorrow and will know then whether what looks to me like skin really is or not.

In hate it when I have to handle too many notifications.. I try to attend to them ASAP.. the longer the list gets the easier it is for me to miss out some .. I prefer to respond to each person right away.. That is how I work.

I generally always have around 100 notifications at any given time. I also bounce back and forth between old notifications and new ones, but I try to focus my attention on catching up on old notifications so that I can get to them before they drop off.

That's what I'm saying exactly. The problem is when we've checked but not deleted. I think a lot of people here just go on a deleting rampage on their notif's, maybe not all at once, but if they see that they already saw and read one of them. Because there are many here that don't ever acknowledge the final reply sent if more than a response is given. I've also notice that if I write a response and then see someone else's response that I can say something about that the author of the post will see one of those but not always both.

Nope, because three of each notification is from the same response or comment. So that sort of fills up the pages.
