I´m looking for bits of material for my jams.

I found a very beautiful way to dress up the jam I´ll be giving for Christmas. It is a picture from Pixabay. As many of you know, I use recycled jars as containers and seal them with plastic wrap. I think that over it I could place some material and hold it with a rubber band. I want something easy to take off and nothing fancy that it cannot be thrown away. What do you think?

It's funny you post this. The other day I actually saw a "kit" in the store for finishing jarred items like this. Although I can see the convenience of buying a kit with everything in it - you can so easily do this with things you already have at home. Squares of fabric, or even a paper napkin or wrapping paper - a little bit of leftover ribbon or rubber band like you said - a simple tag with a hole could be made out of anything.

That Is a nice present, I am sure you will find a good solution to seal the jars.

I seal the jars with the jam. I fill them when the jam is almost boiling and place immediately a plastic wrap over the jam not letting a single bit of oxygen get into it.

I love gifts that have been made at home. Actually our real estate lady gave us a jar of blueberry-raspberry jam and it is awesome!! I am hoping that this year our son follows suit. We really don't need stuff... anymore!

I like the gingham fabric for the cover.

I liked that too. I think I have some gingham in an old trunk.

How about using recycled clothing from the thrift shop... and what I would do is do a two sided piece that could be used as a coaster on a person's table. Just zig zag around the two squares of material that have been pinned together and then when you're done just take out the pins and trim the threads.

I don´t know any thrift shop here. But I´ll check on the clothes I have that I don´t use anymore.

I also recycle the jars and I recycle also the lids. I usually cut a piece of fabric or a colored paper to decorate the pots when I make jam.

Our jams are often sold like this. Sometimes the material is cut using pinking shears which gives a decorative edge.

I think that any fabric, ribbon, pinecone, little beads, or anything you can find to dress them up would be good. It's a gift from the heart and those receiving them are sure to love them.
