Diary Wedneday 12th December 2018 Today was the day of the community centre volunteers party I was excluded from attending due to unpaid guest speakers not counting as real volunteers. A friend who did get in told me that the meal amounted to a bowl of pea soup and a bag of crisps. There was a ukelele band on. Everyone got a small box of chocolates. I don't feel so bad about missing it. Few went and the general feeling was disappointment. I went to the new university book club event instead, which involved recieving copies of the next two books to be covered ready for discussing in the new year. They will want the books back, butthey look good and I'm happy just to get to read them. I'll review them here upon completion. Diary Thursday 13th December 2018 A quiet day in, catching up on my writing, job searching etc. I got some Christmas cards including one from my Mum which naturally takes pride of place on my chest of draws. A tee shirt I was told to expect by Monday after ordering it on Amazon finally arrived today. Another one was due today and till hasn't arrived. Disaster as one of my tablet computer screens crashed and seemed to burn out. I don't know if it can be fixed but I do have two other computers to use. That one was the best of them though. Diary Friday 14th December 2018 The university volunteering group Xmas meal dominated the day, and involved a lift to Barton, near Preston for a complete expenses paid full Christmas dinner in a very pish and lovely bistro-pub called The Sparling. It was the last chance to see the volunteers before Christmas. A nice surprise in my bank account. Money owed to me since September for a freelance news article finally got paid in, which will help me through the coming holiday weeks. Arthur Chappell

I'm really happy that that dinner you were excluded from was lousy and not really a dinner at all. I'm also not surprised since it sounds like the people you dealt with organized it...Or at least people just like them. Also happy that payment finally came and the real dinner. All in all, not a bad week at all...Except for the tablet. Hope it can be fixed.

@arthurchappell They are getting pretty cheap. The last tablet I bought I think was under $50...though I have seen some that are around $350 or more and I guess they are capable of doing more...I'm just glad that mine does everything I need it to do. I hope you have the same luck.
