An Indian Christmas Decoration

The picture is of a Rangoli design done during a competition in my neighbourhood school today. In keeping with the Christmas theme, a group of children did this pattern and bagged the first prize. Rangoli is an art form that is used for decorations during festivals and other auspicious occasions. Patterns are made on the floor with rice flour, coloured sand, flower petals, seeds and leaves. The patterns range from geometric designs,to floral or depicting a theme. Deft fingers are also needed so that the powder spreads evenly and cleanly as the designs are made.

Wow, what a great job they did using those things to make their picture. One can't really tell by looking that it wasn't done with crayons or artistic supplies. Do you help out at that school, or do you have kids or grandkids that attend there?

@responsiveme okay, thanks for the explanation. My kids are out of school too and have no kids. Although, my younger daughter got married this past May and now has a step-daughter. So I guess we have a step-grand daughter. My older daughter just turned thirty last month and she moved out six years ago or so but moved back in when she split from her boyfriend.

No powder of different colours. It requires expertise as you need to make the decorations sprinkling the powder evenly
