Customers who bought this also bought…

Call me contrary but I really hate this feature of online shopping. Why on Earth should I want to buy the same as anyone else? I really laughed at the ridiculousness of it today though. I was looking for some large self-adhesive numbers to make a big sign for our house, which isn’t all that well indicated. After I looked at the description of a representative number (size, what it was made of etc.), I scrolled down to read the reviews regarding visibility, durability etc. and there, on the bottom of the page, I found the recommendation ‘Customers who bought this also bought’ and showing the numbers 9, 1 and 6. Do they seriously think I will be influenced to buy a certain number because someone else bought it, rather than because that’s the number I need? It did make me laugh. Maybe we should move house to number 91 just so I can follow the recommendation! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2018.

I get tired of seeing "people who bought this also bought". I don't follow the crowd either. The stuff that is recommended is usually stuff I wouldn't give house room to anyhow.

You're right there! The other thing that annoys me is when they recommend you buy something you have just bought. You buy something like a saucepan which you are hoping will last for at least a decade and then straight away they suggest you should buy another. No thanks, I just bought one as you know perfectly well!!

It's pretty crazy isn't it? Some go to so much trouble to try to get you to buy stuff.

The really amazing thing is that presumably it must work some of the time, or they wouldn't do it.

@JudyEv I guess if you pester enough people, you only need 0.1% of them to go for it to make it all worthwhile.

@Fleura It must be that way with the telemarketers too and the scam merchants.

I hate when this pops up, not to mention that most of the times they list thing I ALREADY bought, so I have no reason to be suggested. I also hate when Facebook "suggest" to add friends.

Sometimes their recommendations help us to remember to order something we might have forgotten. Extra number? No that's just bizarre,

I usually end up wondering what on Earth possessed people to buy that particular thing!

There's a sucker born every minute, and features like this that actually work prove it day in and day out. Not all of us are suckers though. It's like on those TV adds when they say the second item is free so long as you pay a separate fee. lol

@fleura That made me titter. I also have no interest in knowing who bought what. I can recommend Homebase for big luminous numbers. I recently bought some to go on my bin.
