More Laundry Adventures

I have written a couple of posts lately about my adventures in laundry. I talked about someone stealing my bras out of the dryer and some silly people I met on the way there or back.
Today I thought I should wash so I have something to wear for church tomorrow. I got them washed with no problem but I started putting my clothes in the dryer and smoke started swirling out. This was not steam or mists but real smoke. It kept coming and increasing.
I took the clothes out and put them in another dryer. The laundry manager came to pick up cash from the machines. I told him about the smoking dryer and he said it happens when the belt gets loose. I mentioned the squeaky dryer above it and he said there are metal wheels driving the drum and they get dusty. We wipe them down with a dryer sheet. He said if the vents get blocked the dryer catches on fire. Great to know! Thanks.

Once at home I tried washing this huge, thick comforter that we use as a picnic blanket - um, I guess it was too much for the washer to handle. It had this slowing down sound and I actually smelled that burned rubber smell . I took it out right away and took it to the laundromat where they can handle big items. That was a few years ago - and our washer still works - but I am always anticipating that the washer could die at any moment.

We used a laundromat when we first got married, but I was sure glad when we got our first washer. No adventures like yours, though.

When I lived in an apartment I shared the laundry room with 80 other people and we had to book the laundry room about a week before we wanted to use it. One time I picked up my laundry and a woman had left an angry note in my basket. She accused me of stealing the hours that she had booked. She must have misunderstood something, I wasn't doing anything wrong. She seemed very angry, but I never met her in person.

@akalinus Maybe. I am just happy that I didn't meet her, because the note was written in a very angry way and she used some pretty bad words about me.

@Porcospino She probably would not say those things to you in person.

Older dryers are the worst for that kind of stuff. I haven't been to a launry mat in ages. When I was a young woman, that is how we would wash our clothes. We found a lot of thongs in a dryer once. We were the only ones in there, and had been for hours.

@akalinus Oh no, I wouldn't keep another person's laundry, especially intimates. We left them in the dryer. The dryer was left open. I wonder if they ever went back for them, but I think that was probably doubtful.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are times when the machines when you really need a machine. At those times, it is good to leave them on the table. At least, I do.
