Wash your hands after ordering a meal at a restaurant

This may seem like strange advice. But the menu card in a restaurant is one of the dirtiest things as it is used so many times and carries a lot of bugs. So it's a good idea to clean your hands after handing back the menu and getting ready to receive your meal. I've never thought about this till I read it recently. Do you think it's likely?

@playertwo my belief too, I really don't mind .. unless I can really see that I have to wash my hands then I don't hesitate.

Hands in general are the most soiled and need to be washed before food is handled.

Very valid point. They need to be washed just before they need to be cleanest!

I agree, and would like to add that your refirigerator's handle, the lift's buttons and the faucet of your kitchen's sink are as bad as the menu. Be careful.

If you read too much about it we'd all end up just standing in one spot with our hands up in the air and avoid touching everything.

@pitstop I suggest you to buy a good pair of handgloves suitable for every place and occasion and don't take it off unless you have to.

I carry hand sanitizer in my bag and I always use it before I eat. I think that it is a very good idea to clean our hands after we have touched the menu. A lot of people have touched it before us.

Thank you for this post. I had never given a thought to the possibility of germs of menus. Washing or sanitizing one's hands after handling a menu is an especially good idea for those with compromised immune systems.

Most adults probably won't get affected. Children and people with sensitive tummies may get a bug.

I think it is very likely true and they also say that handling money is an easy way to pick up germs.

I think that makes sense. I will remember to disinfect our hands the next time we hold the restaurant menu.

I have heard this before also. I've worked in a restaurant before where they would wipe down the menus but not all places do so i would agree to wash your hand after touching them. It's also the same as never read the magazines in a doctor's office.

I never thought about it either, but I think you are right. I do know a lot of restaurants do wipe their menus down though, which is why they are often covered in a plastic material. That being said, I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER heard of anyone saying, "I went to the restaurant and the food was great, but the MENU made me sick."

@playertwo Paper money has WAY more bacteria than a menu does, and money very rarely, if ever, has made anyone sick...unless they are lacking it when they need it.
