One more week to go until Christmas break

and then I will have a week off. I'm always ready for a week off! Christmas week is a busy time for me. It is like a marathon. It starts with my husband's birthday, then Christmas Eve, Christmas, and my mother's birthday. What is supposed to be a fun and relaxing time often feels a lot like work. My mother used to make us trek up to NYC for her birthday, the day after Christmas, which was just INSANE. It was crowded as hell and she always wanted to go to Rockerfeller Center to see the tree and to St. Patrick's Cathedral--places that were totally mobbed. It was awful. She has stopped inflicting that on us over the past several years which has been wonderful. So now it is just the husband's birthday, dinner at my parents' for Christmas Eve, and then actual Christmas dinner at my sister's house. 3 days in a row of celebrations is enough. I need the rest of the week off to recover from that!

It is a tough time. I'm just glad that I don't have to go to work every day as well.

Well, it sounds like you are going to have a joyful holiday. It will be strange for me. Another Christmas of memories, the first in Florida, and Latvia used to have a second Christmas Day on Dec 26.

Doesn't work that way in this family. You can't not acknowledge people's birthdays. and my mother has insisted on doing something on Christmas Eve the past few years for some reason. It is a total marathon in this family, especially when you are doing some cooking/baking too along with the wrapping of presents and the rest of it.
