Are You From Virginia?

Lodi, California

In my last post, I shared that we're looking to move somewhere within the continental United States... So far, we have at least narrowed down to the state of Virginia. My sister-in-law lives there and she likes it. She lives in Leesburg and from what I understand, the northern part of Virginia is pretty expensive. We're looking for something a little more affordable because the cost of living in California is getting ridiculous. If you're from Virginia, please let me know if you have some advice of where to start looking. I know I can look up all the statistics online, but I would rather ask someone that actually lives there :)

You DON’T want to live near Washington DC (the northern part of Virginia). I lived in Norfolk and enjoyed living in Virginia. I think a lot of it would depend on what you like: the mountains in the western part of the state, or the bay front and oceanfront beauty of the eastern part.

As much as I would like to live near the ocean, I worry about floods, storms, and hurricanes :( So I guess I would be looking more inland toward the west. Thank you for your input

I live in England though I have some idea of the very high cost of living in California. I think that Virginia would be more sensible place to live. Maybe look at the price of a house in any area of Virginia. It is lovely to live three miles from the sea. However high winds at the coast in the winter can cause some damage.
