I am glad you feel better Alfredo. The roles in an Italian family differ a lot. My father and brother never helped around the house, mom and I cooked, cleaned did the laundry. My husband helps me to dust and vacuum, sometimes he dares to help in the kitchen, but I throw him out.

So glad you are feeling a bit better. My husband has always helped me in the house with cooking, dishes, vacuuming, and washing the floors. Our two sons do the same for their wives. I enjoy gardening, but my husband does the heavy work. Love my men!

@amadeo It works for us. Besides, my husband enjoys helping our sons and his friends. He’s amazingly savvy and handy for a boy from the Bronx.

In my family, the women always congregate in the kitchen while the men sit in the living room and the children are expected to be playing quietly outside the house not disturbing the adults. Quite old-fashioned I think.

We have some roles that are male and female as far as chores but they are interchangeable, both do all jobs,. My son does more child care than his wife in my observation. She never seems to do his jobs outside. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, it doesn't seem like she does much of anything outside her employment....haha. But I don't live there. This is when I'm around, I guess a mother in law sees more than the average person,.

In our house we tend to be a bit confused. I am usually in the kitchen cooking dinner and my wife is in the living room screaming at the TV for someone to get sacked. (That's a football reference for anyone who may not have known. )

As a child growing up my role greatly differed from that of my 3 brothers. They were allowed to be outside working on the farm, I was not. I was expected to be in the house learning skills from my mother. Of course not everyone follows directly in their parents footsteps, so I did not find that way of raising a family to offer any diversion. We raised our son to learn to cook, clean and do laundry (those were girls' work in my day) and he also went to university to earn a degree so that he could one day be independent.

@amadeo I agree, his wife loves it, and those cooking skills served him well when he lived on his own during his years away at university.

When I was growing up my dad worked , mom stayed home and did all the house related stuff. When my children (3 girls & a boy) were growing up they all did everything. My girls learned how to use tools and my son could iron better than his sisters.

Traditional men do not help so much in house chores like cooking or cleaning, but these days it differ because some women have day jobs in offices or have some business and some men do the house chores for them.

Everyone worked together with my mother cooking. When she passed away I cooked and my dad paid us girls to keep the house and clothing clean, the boys all went to work and shared in our raising. I often helped my dad with yard work and my brother working on his cars.
