A new German grocery store opened up near me. It's called LIDL. I have heard of ALDI but not LIDL. Wonder if they are the same in terms of what they offer, the quality of the stuff, and the prices they charge... I've never been to either store before. Today, I stopped by LIDL. Prices are very reasonable. There are a lot of things to choose from. Quality seems good. You do have to pay for the paper bags though. They charge seven cents a bag and the bags are not even good. Put a lot in, especially if heavy stuff, and they will fall apart. Definitely need to double bag in this case, which would mean paying fourteen cents instead of seven. And if you have many double bags, it adds up. I got tulips, some bakery items, some fruits and vegetables, shredded cheese, lemonade, and grilled, marinated asparagus. I ended up spending around thirty bucks. Not bad for the stuff I got. Can't wait to try everything, especially the bakery items. That's my ultimate love - treats from the bakery.

They are like mushrooms here in Italy. My town is not very big but there are three in town and several within half an hour in the car too. Watch out for their special offers. They are well worth buying as usually there are big brand names at really low prices.

@lovebuglena Yes that is what they hope we will do when they give us those coupons but we must be careful. Have a look if there is oomething on special offer that you usually use that have no expiry date like washing up liquid or toilet paper. I often find the cat litter on offer and use those type of coupons to buy it as it lasts forecer.

Thanks for the heads up. I've seen some signs like that yesterday but didn't look at those products as I only looked for things I need. I got a $5 off coupon after I checked out. Have to use it by Dec. 25th. Catch is that I have to spend $25 to use it. I doubt if I go back there that I will buy $25 worth of stuff. And of course, I won't just spend $25 to use the coupon. That would be a dumb thing to do.

Lidl is similar to Aldi, with a plus : they have new offers changing every week on branded food, small furniture, tools, clothes, etc, at attractive prices.

Does Aldi sell non-food stuff?

@lovebuglena Lidl sells a lot of non-food stuff, changing every week. Aldi has quite only food, and the non-food items stay a long time on the shelves.

We shopped at Lidl when we were in Ireland and on the continent as well. We have a few here in Australia I think. We also have Aldi now.

Turns Lidl already exists in the US but it's a first store in NYC. We do have Aldi though, just not where I live.

I have heard of Lidl by doing receipt tasks on Mturk. I have never been to Lidl or Aldi.

I don't think I've ever come across receipt tasks for Lidl on Mturk.
