Another Day Closer

We are down to one and a half days of school before Christmas Break. Tomorrow, I will get very little teaching done as we have Mass first thing in the morning, then my students have Phys Ed. I'll get them for 45 minutes of math before lunch and recess. After recess, they have computers or library depending on what part of the alphabet their last name falls in. Then I'll have them for an hour before they have religion class and dismissal. The good thing about tomorrow's schedule is all the work I'll be able to get done preparing for the break. I should have all my papers graded, grades in the computer, and my room mostly ready before I go home tomorrow evening. For those who are preparing for the holiday, are you ready for the big day, or are you just ready for it to be over with?

Kind of both. I always look forward to Christmas but am also glad when it is done.

I feel very much the same way. I didn't always. These days, though, it seems like the start of Christmas has been pushed back so early in the year that by the time it arrives one has been overloaded with it.

@wolfgirl569 I haven't been to a single store to Christmas shop this year. I've done it all online. In fact, I just placed what I hope will be my last order today. My missus added one more, "If you would like to get me..." to her list last night. Her "If you would like to get me..." means "If I don't get it, I'll pout and make you miserable."

@DWDavis That is a big part of it. Thankfully I dont have to go to town much anymore which helps with that a lot.

I would enjoy the time getting organised for coming back too. Then you can forget about it while you're away. Our schools have 'broken up' until early February.

This would be the time of year for your schools to be on summer break much like we have from June through mid-August, wouldn't it?

We have a 1/2 day tomorrow. No school work will be done. At 8:30 we have our last Advent Prayer Service followed by caroling in the auditorium until about 9:30. Then it is back to our rooms for our class Christmas Parties and a Christmas movie.

@DWDavis I was in Italy today to sign some more papers, but I am finally free, everything is done and fixed there. One more little thing to do before Christmas, I have my teeth cleaning on Saturday.

I don't mind having some cooler weather for a while. I can do without the freezing temps and snow, though.

I'm grateful for it as it means not having to stay late Thursday once the kids are gone to finish up all those nagging details.

The first four days of the break will go by at breakneck speed because we have so much to get done before the big day. Once it has come and gone, my missus and I will be able to relax and enjoy some time together.

My kids both have school until the 24th but my son who does cyber school has no live classes Thursday or Friday so we just have work to complete.

@playertwo me too but my mother wouldn't have allowed me to I'm sure. Getting me out of her hair for 8 hours during the school day had to have been the only thing keeping her sane

Celebrating His birth at this time of year is a reminder that no matter how dark things may seem in the world, He will bring light.

@playertwo Then this time of year would be special for you as well if you celebrate the Roman Festival of Lights - the basis for our Christmas lights and gift giving - or Saturnalia. As I understand it, this Roman festival traces its roots back to the Egyptian Festival of Lamps; a festival celebrating the 7 days of intense light preceding the Deluge.

When I was in parochial school, we had religion first. Interesting your school has it last. I'm almost ready. I'm looking forward to it.

I have the magnitude of my gifts bought but still need a gift card for one daughter. I will still have to wrap it all but it's not as much as most buy. I will check to see how much wrapping paper I have so I don't run out. At least your day will be rather light tomorrow. I didn't realize you taught Ta Catholic School. Are you Catholic too?
