where do people park in your neighborhood?

our residential neighborhood is becoming more and more commercial. sure, i like that a lot of goods and services are now just walking distance here. it saves us time and effort not having to commute, then lugging stuff home in crowded jeepneys, or spending on a taxi. but it also means these small businesses have customers parking in front their establishment while they eat, buy stuff, pick up items, etc. when there's already one vehicle parked there, they park on the sidewalk in front of or along the side of our house. maybe it's time to put up several 'no parking' signs along the fence from front to side next month. i mean, people should have garages for their cars. and people who set up small businesses should also have parking spaces for their customers.

People park there where they want, even on the sidewalk, where people can not pass.

I agree. Is the "no garage no car policy " already being passed as a law too.

And buy your car on installment. Buy the 4 wheels first, then the doors, etc.

i agree with you. our gate is at the crossroads and it fronts a pathway and sometimes tricycles park in front of the gate. too close that i have to tell the driver to move his vehicle in front or push it backward so i can go out of the small gate. it seems they are making our gate their ''parking area''.

it's bad enough that they just park without telling you, but sometimes they play their radio or smoke or talk loudly with other drivers

@ridingbet i think it's because they are used to small crowded places that they think you can easily maneuver your car through. people don't recognize private spaces vs. shared spaces anymore

@hereandthere yes, and sometimes i get so upset when they know we are going out and they don't move their tricycles far from the small gate for us.

Instead of putting the NO PARKING sign, why not put PAY PARKING :)

@responsiveme the small businesses here used to be small retail stores (family sari-sari stores where you buy per piece), beauty parlors, bakery, pharmacy. people just walk up, buy or enter then leave. they don't bring any vehicles. the new eateries that have cropped up one after the other say customers clamor for a place to eat and sit, so they park their vehicles.

I guess I am quite lucky I have a driveway for parking. Usually we park 3-4 cars on the driveway but when we have something on at our home with very creative parking we can get 8 cars on the drive. In my road we can only park on it at certain times of the day mostly after 6PM to 8AM and all day on Sunday!

I live in a gated community with strict rules on parking, so in my neighborhood everyone has to park in their driveway or garage. No one is allowed to park on the street, or block anyone else house, or else their car will get towed away. But in my girlfriend's neighborhood, people can park wherever they want, and cars are constantly parked on the street, making it difficult to navigate when driving to her house. It drives me crazy.

it was that way before. houses had a garage and a gate, yet there's still space to hang laundry, for kids to play, for a garden set and plants - all within the perimeter fence.

That's one of my woes too; the local government allowed some establishments to operate without a parking lot, adding traffic to already crowded roads!

You hit the bull’s eye. We have the same problem here. I live in a commercial area and it is hard for me to park my car because of those unethical motorists that just park in any vacant space even if they are not tenants or clients.

Drive way, garage, yard, street along side the yard. Honestly the people that live by the highschool have it the worst because during events there is not enough parking. last year some of the homeowners began to allow parking in their yard for a small fee

All houses around here have garages - but not all use them for cars. For businesses, in most cases, parking is not a problem though at times it may be tight. Street parking is doable, but you have to watch for the signs as often there are time limits. In our particular neighborhood, we are near a hospital - no one is allowed to park in the street from 8am-6pm in front of the houses unless you have a permit (including us, but we don't need it as our cars fit in our driveways).

We don't follow zoning laws. Residential areas are mixed with commercial ones and it can really be an inconvenience to find traffic or parked cars outside your house. It's as if we hate open spaces. Sad.
