Do you ever use your outdoor space as a refrigerator?

Of course this wouldn't apply to those in a tropical climate, but if where you live is cold enough..do you get free refrigeration from the outdoors? My refrigerator is pretty full at the moment so I am making use of the outdoor cool temps to chill the jello. Most often I put drinks out there..but in the Winter I will use it to cool things as well. I have to make sure everything is covered though..as it could attract some unwanted guests. My parents used to put all kinds of things to chill in the garage. It made a lot of extra storage space for them.

Yup. We sure do. Mostly drinks like you mentioned. But so long as the temps are cold enough out there I say sure, why not?

@snowy22315 That's what I say. Why waste electricity when you don't have to?

Yes, best if they are in a sheltered place, but I put them on the back deck or the porch if need be.

When it is cold and we need the room yes we use outside to keep things cold for us. Last year this time it was in the 20s for highs and the freezer needed to be defrosted so we put food in boxes and coolers and outside until we were done. Worked great

Yes, it can be helpful when you need space. Unless they were sealed drinks though I wouldn't dare leave any food out overnight..it is a good bet around here..it would be gone in the AM.

@snowy22315 It was only out there for about an hour until the freezer was finished. I wouldn't leave anything like that out overnight.

In Israel it's not that cold outside unfortunately. My refrigerator is pretty full too so I wish I could use my outdoor space. When I travel to Europe in winter I always cool drinks outside though. Happy Holidays!

One winter my refrigerator broke, and I had to wait until Monday to tell the apartment office. So I put my perishables right outside my front door, and they kept just fine.

When I lived in New England, we would often use the "porch fridge" to keep drinks cold in the winter.

Yes, I don't do it all the time..but it can help to cool things. You have to keep an eye on the temps around here though..you probably don't want to leave anything out for an extended period.

It worked well today to harden the jello and the fudge, but I had to cover and monitor them.

@snowy22315 That is an interesting question or title. I have one frig and it is in the kitchen. Some have a separate freezer somewhere else.
