The last of the cherries is ours

Around Christmas each year, roadside stalls set up in the area selling freshly picked cherries. These are sweet and delicious and we bought a bagful this morning to take away with us when we visit our friends. The lass told Vince they have just about run out of cherries so I’m glad we were able to get some before that happened. I just hope we manage to have a few left by the time we arrive. Are you able to buy cherries in your area? How long are they available in the stores?

Bing cherries and Rainier, the larger sweet yellow ones, are available in our summer months only, especially July.

@JudyEv They are available for a very short time and are delicious. Enjoy what you have. They look perfectly ripe from your photo.

Cherries are not so common in our area. It is not a native fruit. But we do get them in few selected stores. They are good quality ones but quite costly.

Cherries have been in short supply this year because of the weird weather we've had. They've consequently been very expensive so we haven't bought as many as we usually do.

Cherries seem more dependent on the correct weather conditions than do some other fruits.

Oh, that's a shame. I guess it is much too hot for them to grow there and they are probably expensive to buy in.

I love cherries, but they are not sold in here. Common fruits being sold in stalls near our areas are : apples, mangoes, bananas, watermelons, melons, grapes and oranges.

We have a cherry tree that usually ripens around June and they are delicious if we get to them before the birds. I believe we have Rainier.

@JudyEv Some are different colors and sweetness. Rainier tends to have a yellow and red coloring to them. Some are tiny and some pretty big.

@jvicentevalera I like bananas too but lately I've had a couple that were very strange tasting. I think maybe they were picked too early then didn't really ripen properly.

WE can't buy them at this time of years in California, but when they are in season there is one lady that sells wonderful cherries in front of the post office as part of a fundraiser for her church. She's only there for about a week and then they are gone. They are always very tasty.
