Our grandson's first word was . . .

Our grandson and his iPad (my own photo)

Thinking back a couple years to when our grandson (that's him in the photo) was learning to talk I recall that his first word wasn't one of the usual ones - 'Mummy', or 'Daddy' or even 'Gran' or 'Grandad'. Nope. As a child of the Information Technology Age his first word was an up-to-date, very modern word which didn't even exist when his parents were his age! Mum doesn't allow him unlimited time to watch his favourite cartoons online but he is allowed a certain amount of 'cartoon time' (as he calls it now), closely monitored by his parents. Since he is a child of the Information Technology Age he will grow up using computers, smart phones, etc. and the earlier he gets acquainted with them the better it should be for his future interactions with technology and the developments which will come in the years ahead (at least, that's his parents' view). So, what do you think would be the first word of a tech-wizard like our grandson? You may not believe it but his first word was . . . 'iPad' - how about that!

That is so cute. Maybe 'ipad' is easier to say than Mum or Dad. You'd have to hope so. Our little Austrian friend managed Vince/Wince/Bince long before she was able to say Judy.

I think it's important for children to become educated in technology, but word has it that the tech giants don't allow their children to have electronic gadgets at a young age because they aren't that healthy for the developing brain. you might want to do some research on that.
