Egg Shells And Uses For Them

Using ground up egg shells can help you around the house in many ways. It is amazing how much they can give back.. Here are several uses: * Brighten the old coffee stains in your favorite cup. Just crush up some egg shells, put them in your cup with water over night and the calcium will disolve that brown stain. * If you have chickens or other pet birds grind up egg shells and let them snack on them as they will to help make their own shells be strong. * Spread some egg shells in your garden to keep pests away. Soft shelled creatures such as slugs don't like crawling over these sharp shards. * Make home made sidewalk chalk with flour, hot warer, food coloring and crushed egg shells. * Egg shells put in those grimy pots and pans before you scrub with a sponge can help to clean stuck on dirt and grime.

are you sure that broke it? i did that all the time to sharpen the blades when we had one. only thing broke ours was when people put apple cores and one time shrimp tails in it it. got plugged up. the one thing that finally broke it was when one of the kids left a fork go in there

@bunnybon7 I'm sure, I went to the hardware store and they said the stickiness of eggshells is very bad for a disposal. I also looked it up online and they are not recommended.

Interesting. We are saving ours for the tomatoes as I read it might prevent blossom end rot. I will have to try some of these ideas.

@MarshaMusselman .......We don't get those bugs. We plant them in big gallon drums.

I've had that problem before with my tomato plants because we used to grow them in a large container. But, I didn't notice that it really helped much at all. If it works for you let me know next year. It may also work better when not using a container to grow the tomatoes in, but I don't really know.

@celticeagle I just might try to save some and then plan an afternoon of chalkmaking with the granddaughter. She would love that!

Have you used your last idea before and did that really work? I normally just let those pans soak a bit overnight and that usually does the trick. Egg shells are also supposed too help improve the health of tomato plants when using containers, but I didn't find that it worked very well at all.

No, I haven't. A sponge with the scratchy probably would work as well. I mix egg shells and potato peelings with water to make food for my plants.

also if you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink, it sharpens the blades to put them through it
