So now I'm a tad deaf in one ear!!!!

January 8, 2019 4:42am CST
I asked my brother to help me book an appointment with a doctor this evening. It's not the doctors I prefer but I needed to see one straight away. I just got back and she checked my left ear because I said I am a bit deaf. She said it's very inflamed. So cool. Some annoying flu symptoms have left me but the two most concerning symptoms I have now is being partly deaf and having no voice! I have been given tablets to take which I'm a little bit confused about because when I first went to see a doctor ( from the same place I went to today ) he said I didn't need anything and that it would all go away. But now it's much much worse. So now I DO need tablets. Maybe he didn't think it would become this bad I don't know. I don't care I just want to be better already. I am just having a little rant. Good thing it's typing and not talking SINCE I CAN'T FRIGGEN TALK! I wanted to start singing lessons again this month but noooooooo can't do that. I wanted to do a thorough clean of the house but noooooooo every time I move a bit I cough up a lung. I have an appointment this Thursday at a job place and was possible for me to get a job oh but noooooooo I can't even communicate with anyone. Screw you flu! Anyway.... If anyone has any suggestions, even the cliche "Stay warm and drink tea" advice on getting better, it would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions or advice on helping the flu or whatever the heck this is getting better I would honestly appreciate it. What I have been doing is drinking green tea, inhaling steam every now and then, sucking on lozenges, drinking water, munching on carrots ( only veggie I have in the fridge ), and trying to sleep.

I think you are already doing everything you can to help the flu to go away. Stay hydrated and stay warm.

@VivaLaDani13 That's exactly what I wanted to write, too. There isn't much you can do to have a quick recovery. In German there is the saying that a flu lasts seven days or one week no matter what you do. Rest, sleep a lot, find someone who pampers you. You can read through tons of myLot posts - this is light stuff which won't hurt your brain. :-)

Sorry to hear you're not well Dani. All I can do is to trot out the old cliche 'This too will pass', and to wish you well.

@VivaLaDani13 My husband hasn't been too good this week, I'm hoping it's just a temporary setback. Hope your ear is ok by now.

@jaboUK Thank you. "This too will pass" still makes me feel good. I mean I know it will but I never mind being reassured that soon this will all be over. How is your husband doing? I hope he is doing well and I also hope you are doing well!

Seems you have all the bases covered. I don't know what else you can do to get rid of the flu and start talking and hearing again.

@VivaLaDani13 I am so so sorry you are going through that and to want to help me. Please just take care of yourself and do not worry about me. I say you also need a hug right now. I wish you were here and we could give each other a hug and a have a good cry. That is so frustrating. I would putting not water in a bowl and putting your head close to it and towel over your head to breathe in the steam. Hot water and honey and garble with salt water. If you do not have an air purifier then you can make your own by the steam in the hot water. All those sound good. I will pray that you get better soon. I am so so sorry.

@Hannihar Hey it's no worries at all. I didn't mind one bit trying to help you out with that. Thank you very much for the advice and suggestions. I am going to be going to bed soon and hopefully sleep the night away. Big sleep is what I need the most right now cause I'm so exhausted. Haven't slept much.

@Hannihar I hope so too. I'm a little nervous that I might end up having some coughing fits. Seems to happen mostly while I'm laying down. I am using more pillows than I like to prop myself up which kinda makes me uncomfortable so it's why I'm having trouble sleeping lately. Not feeling comfortable as well as just feeling sick.

I am so sorry to hear that things have gotten worse. I really don't have any advice to give. I think it just has to run its course. Hopefully your health will start improving soon.

@Happy2BeMe oh it would! I know I sound like a baby but this has made me cry a few times. Just due to frustration. Not that the chances are high on this but it's put me in a bit of panic mode that if I needed to yell out for help for something, I literally can not do that. I don't think anything like that is likely to happen but it's just annoying me that my senses are down and voice is not working normally. I didn't think about this until yesterday night. I was cooking something and accidentally burned my finger and I made a noise as if to say "ow" but nothing came out. Just made me think if I needed help of any kind, it's hard to communicate.

Very sorry to hear about that - but if you want to prevent flu from recurring, you should try to boost your immune system. Taking Vitamin C - 500 mg 3-4 times a day, Zinc-15 mg twice daily and also herbs like echinacea and basil may help.

once I was 'living connected to the machines,' but now I'm free ... -ish
See? I TOLD YOU you're getting better! (Well, God told me to tell you ... although I probably 'sinned' there by telling you something He told me in-secret ) The advice I'm hearing-for-you now: 'crowd-out the bad by flooding with good.' I guess that means 1. Drink plenty of water, 2. Eat ... whatever's best for you (Kale? maybe a little, like candy Potatoes? Hot Pockets?), and most-important 3. Work It Out! I'd like to say I'm "living proof" that 'therapy cures everything'---this is one of the very-few reasons I wish I had a picture of myself in the hospital-bed just after my Traumatic Brain-Injury ... It's disgusting ('one eye bulging out 4-times the normal size' is the main thing I remember from the picture, tho it might also be notable that my broken-up body was plugged into machines like one of 'those power-strips you use when you have more machines to plug-in than power-outlets on the wall'), but I could use it as a before-picture with an after-picture of me now!

@VivaLaDani13 Sometimes you've got to crawl through the valley-jungle to get through to the other side---it gets 'worse' as you go farther, but you're still 'further on your way back to healthy sunshine!' Hey! Maybe some sunshine will help. Open a window-curtain!

@mythociate LOL! Your "getting better" is a bit topsy turvy. I'm much worse than yesterday. I don't understand how me getting worse is an improvement to you. Thank you very much for your advice! Much appreciated! I didn't know you had a brain injury. Sorry to hear that.

One think you could do is soak your toothbrush in Listerine (or something like it) while you are sick. Then throw it away when you get better.
